"Immigrant rights are not civil rights?" Stephanopoulos asked.
"No," Coulter responded, "No. I think civil rights are for blacks. What have we done to the immigrants? We owe black people something. We have a legacy of slavery. Immigrants haven't even been in this country."

I don't know what she's talking about. But, as far as I undertand it, the 14th applies to citizens, not necessarily immigrants.

please note that she does not limit her vitriol to immigrants but includes; "...We don't owe the homeless. We don't owe feminists. We don't owe women who are desirous of having abortions or gays who want to get married to one another. That's what civil rights has become for much of the left."

Well, so far you have only gotten agreement. I don't find her comments shocking. I have heard it before.

I should correct myself, though. The last line of the 14th does make it applicable to immigrants. But that does not mean civil rights are applicable to non citizens. In other words, it is meant to invalidate seperate laws for immigrants but the bill of rights and other amendments do not apply to non-citizens. That's my understanding of it, anyway.

scotus has ruled that some parts of the constitution apply to non-citizens like the right to trial by jury and legal representation

That's bullshit. First, many immigrants are citizens or should I say become naturalized citizens. Second, legal alien also have civil rights. Ann Coulter is a garden variety sociopath who's only agenda is marginalizing people she doesn't like. Why in the world do they have mouth breathers like her on any credible news program is completely beyond me.

Not NECESSARILLY immigrants... and see my correction.

DQ, cool! I would let them have all rights so long as they are here legally. I was just pointing out the way it seems to read.
