New York High Schoolers to Receive the Morning After Pill

Published September 24, 2012
Fox News

New York City high schoolers will receive the Plan B emergency contraception without parental consent.

The New York City Department of Education is making the morning-after-pill available to high school girls at 13 public schools.

The DOE says girls as young as 14 will be able to get the Plan B pill.

Parents have been notified about the CATCH pilot program and how their daughters can opt out of it.

A parent would opt out of this why? So their 14 year old child can have a baby?

I plan on getting the girls on a regular BCP, our family has a history of extremely painful cramps that can sometimes be offset by use of the BCP... I don't see a downside really.

I'm reasonably sure the parents simply want to know that their little girl is either sexually active or has been hurt. I don't think it is a "reject" idea. The "no notification" may be because the young miss is a bit afraid of her parents finding out what she's doing and may avoid taking them if their parent will be informed.

In the future, with nanotechnology, girls will take one pill when they turn 12 and another pill when they get married and/or are ready to have a baby.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to force the 12-year-olds to the 'Baby Off' pill and can't withhold the 'Baby On' pill from 18-year-old H.S. drop outs.

So you espouse eugenics via forced sterilization?

Or guys.

The city says about 7,000 girls get pregnant by the time they reach the age of 17.

It says more than half choose to get an abortion.

NYC schools already distribute free condoms to students.

Yes murder is preferable than getting to the heart of the problem. Guess those sex Ed classes are a failure.

BTW isn't it ironic that schools can't give a kid a Tylenol but they can hand out abortifacients?

Why is it any business of the parent if their daughter is sexually active? It is just sex. It isn't like there are any physical or psychological effects that could negatively impact women.

Girls just wanna have fun. Let em. I think we should put abortifacients in the Moochele approved soy milk that way we have all of our bases covered

So true, they cannot give out an aspirin to students without parental permission. Yet they can give out much more powerful drugs without parents being informed.

It's even more ironic in New York where Governor Cuomo just a few weeks ago signed a new law that minors cannot get their ears pierced without getting their parent's permission. Apparently, Cuomo is worried about the health risks from body piercings.

But now what will minors do who want body piercings that their parents won't sign off on? Will New York City be full of kids getting back-alley body piercings? But at least they'll be able to load up on their birth control pills without their parents knowing. That's all that matters.

I just hope those kiddies don't try to wash it down with a big gulp. The upside is that thanks to Michelle Antoinette's new dietary restrictions they will be able to take it on an empty stomach as directed by the package insert

If you have a good realtionship with your children you will know if they need birthcontrol.

This is flat wrongheaded. If you remember being a teen you remember that you may hold some things back from your parents regardless of how good they think your relationship is.

I held some things back, sure, but I would never have held back something as big as my girlfriend being pregnant, they would have been my number one choice to go to for help with something major like that.

What did you hold back from your parents?
