State Dept officials deny linking attack to anti-Islam video, raising questions

The State Department said Tuesday it never concluded that the consulate attack in Libya stemmed from protests over an American-made video ridiculing Islam, raising further questions about why the Obama administration used that explanation for more than a week after assailants killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.
The revelation came as new documents suggested internal disagreement over appropriate levels of security before the attack, which occurred on the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks on the U.S.

Briefing reporters ahead of a hotly anticipated congressional hearing Wednesday, State Department officials provided their most detailed rundown of how a peaceful day in Benghazi devolved into a sustained attack that involved multiple groups of men armed with weapons such as machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars over an expanse of more than a mile.

But asked about the administration’s initial — and since retracted — explanation linking the violence to protests over an anti-Muslim video circulating on the Internet, one official said, “That was not our conclusion.” He called it a question for “others” to answer, without specifying. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter, and provided no evidence that might suggest a case of spontaneous violence or angry protests that went too far.

Just as a reminder the Obama administration couldn’t get its story squared with the facts for well over a week.

:awesome:
Sounds like Hillary is throwing Obama under the bus.

Meanwhile Nakoula is still in jail for violating a probation that may not have been violated, ostensibly IMO to show that we are doing something about "evil" people who make videos that cause attacks on Consulates that were not caused by the video...

Didn't he bilk people out of money?

And you want this inflammatory, bloviating schmuck instead?

"Despite the fact that U.S. missions in Egypt and Libya came under attack after that embassy statement, with crowds besieging the Cairo embassy and the consulate in Benghazi in the late hours of September 11, the campaign released a statement from Romney saying, "It's disgraceful that the Obama Administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks."

This barely qualifies as dog-whistle politics. At a moment when sovereign U.S. soil was under attack by Islamist radicals, the Romney campaign tried to tie the president to those extremists attacking us, saying that he had "sympathy" with their cause.

And then, in the clear light of morning, Mitt Romney doubled down on the claim, repeating it -- perhaps for fear of appearing weak -- and his campaign released talking points to hammer home the point. He picked precisely the wrong time, and over the wrong issue, to go "bold."

The first thing Obama and then Clinton did was apologize for the video that supposedly upset the Muslims and deny the US have anything to do with it....

Apologize and then blame the video....acknowledging the Muslims had a reason for being upset does show a degree of "sympathy" and then stating the lie the video was the reason....
along with caveats to cover their asses .....

And Romney had every right to voice his disagreement with both of these issues....

Not to mention the FACT that the lie about the video was repeated even a week later when there was no doubt it was a lie.....

Unless the administration is filled with complete fools, even they should have concluded that any attack on US assets coinciding with Sept 11 was an obvious terrorists attack until it could be proven otherwise....

Liar

Americans don't want to know the truth of what we've done in Libya. Both sides simply play it for political advantage.

But what NATO did in Libya was not only a blatant crime against humanity, but it has also caused the world to re-align faster.

Libya was a blatant demonstration of who the terrorists really are.

Americans are much too immature for such a conversation.

Tell me again why we took him out? Seems to me he was pretty contained
