Poll: Romney leads in Florida, New Hampshire

Rationalist

Hail Voltaire
Mitt Romney has opened narrow leads in both Florida and New Hampshire as the Republican presidential candidate continues to gain momentum in crucial battleground states off his strong debate performance last week.

The survey from the American Research Group shows Romney with a 49 percent to 46 percent poll in Florida and a 50 percent to 46 percent lead in New Hampshire, two states that represent a total of 33 electoral votes. Another survey of Florida by the conservative-leaning Rasmussen Reports gives Romney a 51-47 percent advantage.

Romney's post-debate gains are most noticeable among women and independents. In Florida, Romney leads 49-45 percent among independents, and now only trails the president by 3 points with women. By contrast, Romney holds an 11-point lead among men.

It also appears that President Obama's attacks on Romney's Medicare proposal have not yet resonated among Florida seniors; among voters over 50, the Republican holds a 54-42 percent lead.

In New Hampshire, Romney holds a similar 48-45 percent lead among independent voters, and only trails the president by a single percentage point with women. Again, Romney posted a double-digit advantage over Obama with men and those over 50 years old.

The surveys were conducted through Thursday night, and do not account for any movement that may have occurred after Thursday night's vice presidential showdown between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan.

Things seem to be getting worse by the day for the President. :)

Now this is just me but you know these polls are fluid. Romney may have gained the lead here recently but he can lose it just as quickly. Of course I'd rather have my candidate in the lead than trailing but it just seems there are too many people counting their chickens before they hatch.

i think there comes a point in an election, where people aren't going to keep going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. the number of people left to coalesce is getting smaller every day.

OK, but if he loses you have to buy everyone on JPP a beer!

My point was he berates a poster for saying Obama will win big, points out that other poster know it will be close, then he crows that Romney will win by a landslide! Is it just me or is this a stupid comment....

Well.....if the shoe fits.

Romney is a plutocrat who is not a right wing ideologue like Bush. I have ever reason to believe that if elected that he would govern reasonably and responsibly and that he would probably govern as a technocrat. None of which answers the quesiton, "is it in my best interest to vote for him"?

It's not Romney I'm worried about so much as the right wings control and influence over the Republican party.

Which is evident in the polls. It used to be 10-12% undecided, now many polls are down to 4-6% undecided.

No, it's just you.
You made a stupid comment.

What else can they do for the next three weeks? Sit on their thumbs? Play World of Warcraft? Commit small and meaningless sins?
