Is Mormonism a cult?

When we form a relationship we look for commonalities. Experiences we can share.

Whether it is a friendship or a marriage the temporary euphoria eventually gives way to a deeper, shared relationship. I am sure that this will be denied by those who are in mixed culture relationships, but it is important to know what beliefs, what moral compas, what knowledge your partner shares.

We expect our representatives to be similar to ourselves. Not identical but to understand us. To work with us. To be part of what we hold dear.

Romney believes in seer stones and 'magic' underwear. He believes in angels and golden plates. He believes that his 'god' or his people come from a planet that does not exist.

Don't say he does not believe because for years he has taught that stuff in his position as bishop, one of the highest positions in his church. He was/is the father of the ward. One of his responsibilities was/is to promote the belief of Mormonism.

Think about that for a moment.

I know a man's religious beliefs are his own affair, but this man is responsible for teaching children that black men are cursed, that Joseph Smith (a convicted felon) 'found' some golden plates inscribed with a language that ONLY he understood, despite the fact that there are no other evidences of this language from which he might have learned, ANYWHERE. And then he translated them, not into his own English (19 Century), but into 16th Century English.

He teaches/taught children that their god resided in space, on or near a planet called Kolob. No one in his religion has ever given any information to help astronomers locate this planet, despite the fact that Mormons pride themseves on being modern and technically proficient.

This man teaches/taught that also buried on a hill was a pair of silver spectacles with stones instead of lenses and that if you put these stones (or other stones, I don't know which) in your hat you will magically find what you have lost.

Now all that is fine. He can believe whatever he likes. He should not be entitled to teach that nonsense, but then we can say the same of people of all supernatural beliefs.

Now he wants to be president of America.

Now he wants to be in a position to judge Iran; to judge N. Korea; to judge China; Europe; India; Mexico; etc etc. Now the man who believes in putting stones on his head is going to tell the president of Iran that HE is dangerous! Now the man who believes black people to be cursed is going to engage with the peoples of Africa and Asia.

Obama also has beliefs. just as illogical, just as fallacious, but he holds his beliefs in common with half the planet. His beliefs are shared by Africans, Asians, South Americans, Europeans (that is if he truly believes, which I honestly doubt.)

Well, Americans, you may think that it is your future so you can do with it as you wish. But history tells us otherwise. It tells us that you have a belief that the whole world should be like you and that your ,very limited, form of freedom should be imposed, at the point of a gun if necessary, upon the rest of the world.

We don't want the rest of the world to be like us, because we know it could never be like us, no matter how hard it tries. It's just not good enough...

BUMP.
Someone on your side of the water needs to understand the ramifications of electing Romney. Which part of 'crazy' do you not understand? Not all republicans are so stupid....are they? really?
