Powell endorses Obama for second term

Do you honestly think Powell's endorsement matters? It would be news if he either didn't endorse Obama or endorsed Romney. Do you really think Powell's endorsement is going to change the mind of people now that they have seen Obama in office for four years?

Me thinks you are grasping

I dont think this really matters. But you never know, Id rather have the endorsement than not.

I think it would be persuasive to some moderates/independents but at this stage of the election I don't think there's to many undecideds that this will persuade. We'll see. Obama recieved a small but significant bump from his endorsement in 2008.

LMAO... it is comical that you think Powell tipped the election in 2008. I think Palin, McCains comments on the financial mess, and GW Bush tipped the election to Obama.

That said, do show us your evidence of the Powell bump.

You may have a point there. Obama was up on McCain 48 to 44% when Powell made his endorsement. A week after his endorsement of Obama in 2008 Obama's national polling went up from 48% to 50%. Two weeks after the endorsement it was up to 52%. So I stand corrected. His endorsement didn't tip the election but it certainly strengthened Obama's position.

What else happened during those weeks? I just have a hard time believing the polls shifted based on Powell's endorsement.

I thought his comments on Romney were the most interesting thing about it. Also, it's pretty obvious he regrets having been a part of the Bush administration.

It's easy to criticize someone when the only thing dependent on it is the reputation of a persona you use on a bulletin board.

I don't think Powell's opinion carries much weight with the left, because they have labeled him as the guy who lied for Bush and sold the Iraq War before the UN.
