Racial attitudes have not improved in the four years since the United States elected its first black president, an Associated Press poll finds, as a majority of Americans now express prejudice toward blacks whether they recognize those feelings or not.


The same respondents were also administered a survey designed to measure implicit racism, in which a photo of a black, Hispanic or white male flashed on the screen before a neutral image of a Chinese character.


The respondents were then asked to rate their feelings toward the Chinese character.


Previous research has shown that people transfer their feelings about the photo onto the character, allowing researchers to measure racist feelings even if a respondent does not acknowledge them.


Results from those questions were analyzed with poll takers' ages, partisan beliefs, views on Obama and Romney and other factors, which allowed researchers to predict the likelihood that people would vote for either Obama or Romney.

FYI to those who won't be lectured about racism by democrats... And others.

The KKK was born of conservatives. The democrats at that time especially southern democrats were conservative. Republicans were the progressives of varying degrees up to about Eisenhower.

Also blacks were not historically democrats unless your history stops at about Hoover. Blacks were a majority republican from reconstruction and began a gradual shift to democrat around the FDR /Truman admin. Those who were allowed to register anyway.

The more ardent southern racist / segregationist of the Democratic Party moved first to the Dixiecrats after Truman integrated the military then later to the Republican Party. The shift was just as gradual. Some notables include Strom Thurmond, Trent Lott And George Wallace who actually ran as an independent.

In short, historically speaking - republican didn't always mean conservative, and democrat didn't always mean liberal

When John H. Sununu suggested Thursday night that former secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed President Obama because both are African American, it was not the first time the former governor of New Hampshire and top surrogate for Mitt Romney had stoked controversy this election cycle.
“Frankly, when you take a look at Colin Powell, you have to wonder whether that’s an endorsement based on issues or whether he’s got a slightly different reason for preferring President Obama,” Sununu said in an interview on CNN. When pressed on what those reasons might be, he replied, “Well, I think when you have somebody of your own race that you’re proud of being president of the United States, I applaud Colin for standing with him.”
