People Starve and Die in NY, NJ, and Bush does nothing...wait...

LOL... yet when it took three days to get water to the Superdome, we heard about that for how many years? All the suffering blamed on Bush and Brown.

Because their initial response, leadership & visibility during the crisis, and coordination of relief efforts was abysmal.

Republicans are very confused about this. They seem to think that good leadership means that no one will suffer at all during a catastrophe.

It's impossible to prevent suffering, especially short-term. What people want to know is that their gov't & emergency services are on it, and that help is on the way.

LMAO... IF only Democrats had been this understanding with Katrina!

For the record, here is what I think... Katrina AND Sandy were hurricanes, natural disaster, and unfortunate shit happens in a natural disaster. It's not the President's fault, there isn't anything the federal government can do to prevent it, no level of preparation can prevent the inevitable crisis, and the aftermath takes time to address, no matter WHO is president or FEMA director. Those are facts of life. But since Democrats wanted to crucify Bush over response to Katrina, turnabout is fair play. Now why the hell are people suffering and dying under Obama, the Great Savior of All? Is it because of his incompetence and failure to lead? Is it because he appointed the wrong person to head FEMA? Or is it just the way shit happens?

Which was deserved!

So, again, if the people of Staten Island are saying they are not getting the supplies they need, that they are starving etc... is that not the same failure? It has been three days...

I agree Bush deserved blame... but how can you not hold the same standard to Obama?

The residents of Staten Island are pleading for help from elected officials, begging for gasoline, food and clothing three days after Sandy slammed the New York City borough.

“We’re going to die! We’re going to freeze! We got 90-year-old people!” Donna Solli told visiting officials. “You don’t understand. You gotta get your trucks down here on the corner now. It’s been three days!”

Causality?

Also, it's this just a light drizzle in your eyes?

Sorry - Bush's leadership was absent during Katrina. We didn't expect him to be there helping to deliver food. We expected him to be visible, reassuring everyone that the gov't was on it, working with local authorities & leaders from the other party, removing red tape for relief efforts and setting up things like a 15-minute response line.

You know - all of the stuff Obama has done.

By all accounts noone is starving due to Sandy, FEMA has done a wonderfull job. President Obama did not survey the damage from an airplane on his was back from vacation, he was on the gground with the governors giving out his personal phone number in the oval office. The head of FEMA is doing a heck of a job, not just being told he was. The head of FEMA is not a horse trainer, but a person with experience dealing with disasters.

I have experience with FEMA.

They're a big waste of taxpayer money.

These union states deserve FEMA, and the unions help.

They'll have to do without comfort a lot longer than non union states that deal with these kinds of problems.

I would have to see your proof for the statement Liberty, sorry, just not buying it.

I agree with you on Bush. But for the 15-minute response line... how again has that worked for Staten Island people???

Staten Island is one of the hardest hit areas, and is in brutal shape. If you watch the updates, relief is getting there, and that is being communicated to the residents.

By the way - 15 minute response doesn't mean that they'll get gas or food to your house in 15 minutes.

Actually four FEMA trucks of supplies were on Staten Island today.

But complaining you don't have power or gas - that's just not going to play. Few do. I already posted just how fast NYS and FEMA have responded to the gasoline crisis. Power is on the utilities, and at least one will have their management team removed when this is over, I bet.

And The Red Cross has set up food stations all over - I was notified earlier today by my town that there are four of them right in Suffolk County, and far more in Nassau. They are serving meals for all, and have supply kits to hand out too. For the people who were bitching about the red cross.

The response has been fast and competent, but sorry, no, there is no magic wand. And there is also no comparison to the near non-response on Katrina. That's just more right wing horseshit.

Because the standards aren't the same, not even close and Staten Island is blaming the Red Cross, not the government.

You didn't read the article Darla posted? Help is on the way!

As far as Staten Island goes, help is there. I think they are very isolated right now and actually seem to believe, starting with their Republican borough President, a Molinaro a very powerful Republican family in Staten Island, that they are being treated differently than the rest of NY.

I think that the Molinaros as usual are doing their thing, and that the residents themselves simply have no access to information and so of course being in that situation they believe they are the only ones suffering gasoline shortages. Uh, no. They are not being singled out, and this is going to be alleviated very fast. I am not the least bit concerned that I won't have it by Monday, and right now I have as much access to gasoline as Staten Island residents do.

But, Staten Island suffered one of the biggest hits. Yeah, there's no magic wand.

Because everything is perfectly normal, they're even running the frickin' Marathon... Huge generators that could provide power to people instead provide power to a stupid foot race...

why isn't FEMA in Staten Island taking care of these people?

When Ike blew through here in 2008, a friend/cop told me he showed up to the FEMA HQ, and they were all BB-Qing meat they confiscated from a grocery store. Sitting on their ass doing nothing.

FEMA is a scam, no matter what you're told.

All the people who want it/FEMA and have paid for it gladly for all these years, deserve what they're getting.
