I hope not we need two strong parties to function at our best.
Maybe some will wrestle the label back from the crazies.
That or a new party will emerge
Obama has a mandate!
how is getting less votes than four years ago and winning fewer states by smaller margins a "mandate"?......

well becuase your party did WAY WAY worse than that.
get it
Excellent article. I made a similiar observation in the "Where Mitt went wrong" thread. That it may actually be in our best fiscal interest, long term, to go over the fiscal cliff though I left the political dimension of doing so as an open question. This article addresses that political dimension in a very thought provoking manner. Thanks for posting it. It was a good read.http://www.theatlantic.com/politics...r-barack-obama-to-become-the-next-fdr/264195/
Does Obama have the fortitude to wait? It would create a bit of chaos the next two months, but the article makes sense from a strategic point of view (Obama's that is).
Why not wait, let the Obama tax cuts expire and then go to the Reps and say 'we need to lower taxes on the low and middle income families'???
That is a lot easier than saying now 'lets extend the Obama cuts for the low and middle classes but not the upper echelon.'

I agree. It does have merit.Bottom line is that we have a window from now until the end of 2013 to get stuff done that might be painful in the short term. Voters obviously have short term memories and thus anything that gets done prior to 2014 that causes short term pain will not likely be held against the parties.
That said, I think the idea of Obama waiting has merit.
...and it could well indeed send us back into recession. As the article states, the pressure will be huge on Obama from both sides to reach a compromise before January.Given that Boehner has once again taken tax increases 'off the table', it seems to be the most viable option to take care of this. Not to mention it would automatically cut defense... which would force the Reps to compromise on other issues.
This is not without consequences as in the short term the market will not like the lack of decision before year end. In addition it may add to the polarization.
It may well have ended his career as a political advisor. He lost his customers over $100 million. They will not be pleased.Watching Rove realize Romney lost on live television was some of the best television of the decade.

Agreed, that and there's work to be done. The interesting question, is that if some journalist from the Atlantic is aware of this and people like you and I are mulling it over then certainly Repubs must know they're between a rock and a hard spot. The other question is will Obama have the intestinal fortitude to pull something like this off. God knows if he could lead reform of the Senate filibuster rule that would be a huge step in the right direction.Yeah, my boss actually sent it to me. Then we sat and talked about it for about 30 minutes. It makes sense for Obama to do it. He has nothing to lose at this point. Especially now that Boehner once again came out with his ignorant 'no higher taxes' bullshit... AGAIN.
Seriously, someone just f'in put Norquist out of his misery. His stupidity has sent the Reps over the cliff. You never take options off the table and stomp your feet like petulant children, if you are the ones chosen to LEAD this country. The feet stomping is for partisan twits like Ditzie and Desh.
Again I agree. I also think the pain of going over the fiscal cliff is exagerated comparted to the long term gain. I think I could manage to muddle through. If they implement true change that will help us recover for the long term, I don't think we avoid a recession. Sometimes you have to take a step back to start going forward again. If they try more short term measures to prevent a downturn, they are just going to be revisiting the same problem six-twelve months from now.
Hell Jarod...get real....some of us pay extra for that! :megusta:One thing I love about elections, trials and such is watching people who live in fantasy land be smacked hard by reality....!
