A new Florida law that contributed to long voter lines and caused some to abandon voting altogether was intentionally designed by Florida GOP staff and consultants to inhibit Democratic voters, former GOP officials and current GOP consultants have told The Palm Beach Post. Republican leaders said in proposing the law that it was meant to save money and fight voter fraud. But a former GOP chairman and former Gov. Charlie Crist, both of whom have been ousted from the party, now say that fraud concerns were advanced only as subterfuge for the law’s main purpose: GOP victory.

Former Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer says he attended various meetings, beginning in 2009, at which party staffers and consultants pushed for reductions in early voting days and hours. “The Republican Party, the strategists, the consultants, they firmly believe that early voting is bad for Republican Party candidates,” Greer told The Post. “It’s done for one reason and one reason only. … ‘We’ve got to cut down on early voting because early voting is not good for us,’ ” Greer said he was told by those staffers and consultants. “They never came in to see me and tell me we had a (voter) fraud issue,” Greer said. “It’s all a marketing ploy.”

Greer is now under indictment, accused of stealing $200,000 from the party through a phony campaign fundraising operation. He, in turn, has sued the party, saying GOP leaders knew what he was doing and voiced no objection. “Jim Greer has been accused of criminal acts against this organization and anything he says has to be considered in that light,” says Brian Burgess, Florida GOP spokesman since September. But Greer’s statements about the motivations for the party’s legislative efforts, implemented by a GOP-majority House and Senate in Tallahassee in 2011, are backed by Crist — also now on the outs with the party — and two veteran GOP campaign consultants. Wayne Bertsch, who handles local and legislative races for Republicans, said he knew targeting Democrats was the goal.

“In the races I was involved in in 2008, when we started seeing the increase of turnout and the turnout operations that the Democrats were doing in early voting, it certainly sent a chill down our spines. And in 2008, it didn’t have the impact that we were afraid of. It got close, but it wasn’t the impact that they had this election cycle,” Bertsch said, referring to the fact that Democrats picked up seven legislative seats in Florida in 2012 despite the early voting limitations."

This is just the tip of the iceberg but I'm glad to see it coming out. Notice how the corrupt deny the charge that they knew all along...

I agree. And what nerve of righties to keep up the mantra that Obama stole the election, huh! Blind in one eye, can't see out of the other.

GOP Memo Admits Plan Could 'Keep Black Vote Down'

October 25, 1986|From the Washington Post

NEWARK, N.J. — A Republican National Committee official calculated that a so-called ballot security program in Louisiana "could keep the black vote down considerably," according to documents released in federal court Friday.

The documents and court hearing were the latest developments in a controversy over the GOP's ballot program that Democrats maintain is aimed at reducing minority turnout. The Republicans say the program's sole purpose is to purge ineligible voters from voting roles.

Yeah....you can always count on the ravings of a fired, disgruntled, indicted thief when he rants against his former employee.....

And for what reason do you discount the SAME NON-raving assertions being made by UNfired, UNdisgruntled, UNindicted GOP consultants?

Any program to keep ineligible voters from voting will affect the minority turnout.....as a matter of fact, any program
that prevents any kind of fraud at all will have a detrimental effect on Dem. votes.

Not much different that Dems. conviently shipping ballots to the troops that will never get to them in time for election or not sending them at all....

What's the matter?
Don't you have an answer for such a simple question?

Thats a funny thing.....almost all ex-employees, indicted for theft and fired by their former employers become 'disgruntled'....weird ain't it....you fool.
If they're lying, and naming names, that's grounds for a slander suit. Just admit it....the ploy failed. Pa. guaranteed a Romney win due to voter suppression laws that were eventually overturned. How'd that work out?

He said she said.....how are you going to prove anything.....its accusations and denials.....

Voter ID is not voter suppression and WILL be the law in future elections.....it was only disallowed because of the time factor being too short according to the judge.....
and its gonna work out great......for both partys and most especially for the US citizen voter....

Quite funny that the UN observers laughed out loud when they saw we just let anybody that enters the polling place vote, witout a clue of who they are or even if they were citizens....

I agree. Implementing new requirements mere months before an election is voter suppression.

When they make ID available to everyone, it will be enacted. Until then, they will just have to let people vote, as is their right.
