Yep in jobs and % of GDP the healthcare industry in enormous.
cutting healthcare costs will increase unemployment and decrease GDP.
Damned if we do and damned if we don't.
We be just damned from our lack of foresight and shortsighted greed.
And not just becuase of the healthcare industry.

I thought so to at first but as it happens I was wrong. Once everyone (we aren't quite there yet) is covered we can control costs....as has already been explained by Althea.
We will be able to negotiate the price of things like drugs for example...what's charged in hospitals etc. etc. etc. Costs will come down...care will go up and people will be healthier. As we go toward single payer it will all become better...but we'll have to keep an eye on everything.

Before we go all over the field let's be clear. My post was in response to Conservative saying countries with government health care have long waiting lists and I responded that deaths from having to wait were insignificant compared to the deaths in the US which does not have a government plan. The US death rate is 45,000/yr. If you are claiming countries with government plans have a correspondingly high death rate the onus is on you to cite.

What a load of crap.
The profit in healthcare comes from weeding out the sick by denying existing conditions, charging exorbitant prices for everything from Q-Tips to procedures, denying treatment and/or coverage to those already covered, and political favors.
Obamacare will, in fact, increase the already needed jobs in healthcare fields by providing training to those interested in needed fields.
Chuck Norris was horrible in The Expendables 2, but the writing for the movie sucked.

Ohh yes we have to cut costs, but there will be more than one price to pay for doing it.
