GOP devotion to tax cuts for the wealthy is a "tell"

I'm all for lower tax rates for everyone - in the best of times. These are not the best of times, and a compromise is needed to avoid what will likely be another bad recesssion.

Can anyone explain the logic of the GOP's refusal to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans, given this circumstance? For starters, they lost the election; they really aren't in a position to demand much. The majority of Americans favors a tax hike for the rich as part of a compromise deal. The hike doesn't represent a significant % historically. Beyond all of that, the "rich" stand to lose a lot more with another recession & accompanying stock market drop then they would by paying the extra tax.

There is no logic to it. Republicans have truly abandoned reason on this one, and to me, it's a pretty obvious "tell." Bush joked about it at a correspondent's dinner in '04, but the rich ARE their base. These are the people who fund their campaigns and livelihood. It's a pretty big statement when they're ready to send the rest of America over a "cliff" in order to protect a few % points for the wealthiest out there.

Because there is nothing greater than sticking it to the takers. If there is a recession, the wealthy will still be perfectly fine. Squeezing the takers a bit would bring us great joy.

oh well if that's the case, why are we even having this discussion? Why is there even a debate? If we aren't in a position to demand anything, then by all means, go raise taxes on your own.

who cares.

get it through your head, the takers don't deserve shit. It's not their money. They are trying to steal it.

it's funny, takers has become my new favorite insult, because there is zero defense against it. What can a taker say after they just got done arguing that they want to take stuff? It's just a fact, and they hate it :)

The logic.....raise taxes ?....for everyone......lower taxes ?.....for everyone

Thats as simple as I can say it so even the pinheads might grasp the logic.

And as a side note.....

"The majority of Americans favors a tax hike for the rich" ?

The majority of Americans once favored slavery too...laws baning abortion and inter-racial marriage....and segregation....etc.

One day...maybe not for quite some time....you will find yourself needing the help of another.

When that day comes I hope you ask someone as selfish and self absorbed as yourself, and you get laughed at for your foolishness.

And when the day finally arrives, you will undoubtedly die alone and friendless.

nice one grind, way to show the idiocy of onceler's thinking.

he is right in one respect though, the gop is being dumb by not agreeing to raise taxes on the wealthy back to clinton era rates.

Makers are overhyped. A lot of makers are really takers, but they just have more lawyers & politicians to take with.

when the fuck will you start to "listen"?......let's be honest.....50% of Americans favor raising taxes on the top 50%....75% of Americans favor raising taxes on the top 25%....90% of Americans favor raising taxes on the top 10%....99% of Americans favor raising taxes on the top 1%....

everybody is happy making someone else pay for everything......
