I'm not going to be too critical of this, because we're two different nations are our cultures are pretty radically different when it comes to these sorts of things, but in a general sense, it's hard for a lot of Americans to take criticism of our rights and ways from England seriously when we hear stories like this. It might just be the circles I run in, but these sorts of stories makes us laugh and shake our heads.

Don't worry it has caused a lot of consternation over here as well, what has happened is someone decided to use the act in a way that the framers never intended or indeed even thought about. I am not sure that Facebook and Twitter were even about in 2003. Anyway, it clearly goes against article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights - Freedom of Expression so it will be challenged first in the Supreme Court and in the ECHR Strasbourg if necessary. The rich and powerful can already sue for libel and have been doing so in increasing numbers. I will say this though, it equally dismays Brits when they see the endless discussions that go on once a trial is underway in the US. Once a trial commences here reporting is subject to sub judice rules which are specifically designed to prevent trial by media.
