It is time to talk about ending public education

Yesterdays events should force us to have a serious discussion about how unsafe public schools are. It is clear that the union run public schools cannot keep our children safe. I have not heard of one instance of this type of event happening in a household that home schools.

Starting tomorrow we should have a serious discussion about ending unsafe public schools. We should start a national program to home school all children for their own safety.

So what happens when we shut all public schools and only the wealthy can afford an education? Does the rest of the population just go pick cotton? That's your real dream isn't it.

I've been saying for a LONG time, that we are nearing an age, with technology, that sending our children off to spend the day with what amounts to complete and total strangers, is becoming obsolete. I think tragedies like yesterday drive that point home. The "argument" for keeping public education has always seemed to center around "social development" but with the advent of social networking, whether we like it or not, that too is becoming obsolete. Kids today do not need, want or require the level of "social interaction" on a personal level, that they once did. You see kids these days, texting back and forth to each other, and they are in the SAME ROOM!

My kids are all grown and out of school, but there is no way in hell they would be attending a public school today. My grandkids are home schooled, and they seem to do just fine in social settings around others. In fact, they are much more mature and emotionally developed than I was at their age.
 
Not everyone can afford to let Mom or Dad stay home with the offspring all day...and tax dollars pay for public schools.

"Because we spend a lot of tax money on this" is not a real good reason to keep doing something, in my opinion. Yes, we do have quite a few people who couldn't afford to do home schooling, but almost everyone has access to a computer these days, and we have plenty of public libraries. Hell, for what we're paying in funding for public education, we could afford to buy everyone a computer! Do online schools?

Although the fact that your grandchildren are home schooled scares the hell out of me, I'm not at all surprised by your second statement. I'd wager they're more mature and emotionally developed than you are today.

Amen. What's wrong with our public schools is states running them like a business. Run our schools like schools, dumbasses. Hire more and better educated teachers, pay them a working wage, build new technologically superior schools, improve curriculum, and tell the fucking fatass parents to get involved!

I had the best free public education a child can get. Why can't all children get the same thing?

How many families can afford to have one parent stay home and oversee the cyber schooling or home schooling of their kids? And the scenario worsens if it's a one-parent home to start with.
