I'm willing to make a sacrifice to settle our debt issue, get spending in check, reduce the size of our military, modernize entitlements, etc, etc. In the short term going over the fiscal cliff has short term fiscal consequences that will hurt many of the short term but benefit them in the long term. Politically though it will have calamitous consequences for Republicans as most of the public will blame them. Bye Bye tea baggers.

With one war over and a second winding down, paid for irresponsibly by Republican borrowing, we no longer have justification for these types of expenditures. How many fucking times do we need to be able to blow up the world in order to feel secure? The military isn't supposed to be a jobs program and.....as I said.....you need to read Washington and Eisenhower on the threat militarism poses to a democratic republic. Boehner's plan B stunt has now labeled the GOP as the party that will let our economy go over the cliff to protect millionaires. Even business leaders are behind the President.

No I actually used "net sum gain" when I first typed it, then I looked it up to make sure I used the right phrase. The point is still intact, but you've abandoned my point in favor of a myopic discussion on the proper use of a phrase. Whenever you raise taxes on everyone, it has no positive effect on economic prosperity. When you and everyone else wake up on Jan 1, and have to pay an extra $5 for the privilege to be an American, it doesn't do a thing for us economically. The government has more money, they spend more money, we pay more money. Zero-sum game.

A net sum gain is a different type of transaction and would indicate that you think the people gain some value in the taxing transaction. Weird. A zero sum game implies you believe that the government spends as efficiently as do the people in satisfying the wants and needs of the people. Either way, you support big government.

You seem to be under the impression that the point of the tax code is to create imbalance between various classes and this somehow creates prosperity. So you seem to think a good policy would be to help the rich and/or hinder the poor.

I am trying to understand your point as it is usually worth quite a few laughs.

My guess is that he trashes conservatives in exchange for the left ignoring his scandals like cheating on his wife while in office.

You could cut out the entire defense budget and we still run deficits. That isn't to say that there isn't money that can be cut out of defense. If I had my way, we would pull out of Iraq, Afghanistan, and every other country we have trooops. So save your straw men arguments for someone else. My comment highlighted the fact that the only cuts you libtards offer up are in defense when anyone who remotely pays attention knows that defense is not even close to a driver of our debt which is why you only speak of it in relation to other countries and not other spending.

This whole discussion about the fiscal cliff blows my fucking mind wide open. Remember, it was enacted to get the deficit under control because the deficit was perceived by some (or so they said) to be the problem with the ailing economy. And now everyone suddenly understands that austerity budgeting, which is what the fiscal cliff is, will actually harm the economy and that contractionary policies are contractionary. Mind officially blown.

Also, too, no one cares about the deficit, particularly the people that claim to care about it the most. They care about taxes, specifically, low taxes for rich people.
