Republicans to Boehner: Stick it up your ass!

Because EVERYBODY will realize a tax increase. Therefore, the economic impact is a "zero-sum game." The same thing happens with a tax reduction as well, that's why the Bush-era tax cuts didn't spur the kind of prosperity the Reagan-era cuts did. Reagan made huge cuts to the top marginal rates, while actually expanding the base of middle class taxpayers, who got a much smaller cut. The result was 30 years of economic prosperity, the longest period of peace-time prosperity in our history. We didn't get that kind of result with the Bush tax cuts, because everybody got basically the same cut, and it was a "zero-sum game."
That's got to be one of the most ridiculous claims yet. One you've attempted to peddle here before.

Only if your net profits are over $400,000/year. Trust me. It won't have a single fucking thing to do with hiring. I don't know a single busines, large or small, that hires or makes capital purchases based on tax rates.

If your net profits are over $400,000 a year, I dont consider you a small business.

Also, too, for truly small business, the owners can structure their compensation such that the bulk of it is treated as a dividend and not wage income.

The small business argument is such BS. It's been debunked over & over again.

What is it about righties and taxes on the very wealthiest Americans? GWB was right - that group is their "base." It's who they have chosen to represent, above all others.

Bfgn's claim was business was behind the tax increases. Those business leaders he's referring to are all leaders at big corporations. Are there any small business groups/associations out there actively working for increased individual tax rates? There may be but I haven't seen or heard them.

Do you realize that taxes on the upper brackets are currently LOWER than they were under Your MESSIAH?

No it's not. I'm willing to make a sacrifice to settle our debt issue, get spending in check, reduce the size of our military, modernize entitlements, etc, etc. In the short term going over the fiscal cliff has short term fiscal consequences that will hurt many of the short term but benefit them in the long term. Politically though it will have calamitous consequences for Republicans as most of the public will blame them. Bye Bye tea baggers.

I don't have a problem with that, but raising taxes on the people who create economic growth and prosperity is going in the opposite direction. I have been screaming for spending cuts for years! In fact, we need a Balanced Budget Amendment and Line Item Veto. That would go a long way in ensuring fiscal responsibility. I don't even have a problem with reducing the size of our military, but just mindlessly demanding we cut military funding, will result in bases being closed and entire towns drying up and blowing away, thousands upon thousands being left with no job, even those who aren't in the military and just happen to work and live in a military town, will be effected. You don't seem to comprehend any of this, it flies comfortably over your pinhead.

I'm not a Republican, so I could care less about what happens to the Republican party, this has nothing to do with a political party. I know that comes as a shocker to you, since that is ALL this is about for you people, but really.... I don't care!

And they need to be made even lower, if we expect to spur economic growth and prosperity, because that is what works. Eliminate Cap Gains, like Reagan wanted to do, and see what happens! Eliminate Corporate Tax, and watch how many industries spring up with new jobs and more economic prosperity! Stop waging your stupid and mindless war on people because of class, we don't have classes in America, we're all ONE class... Americans. Stop being jealous of what you don't have and trying to implement Marxist Socialist policies, which have ALWAYS failed! Stop hating capitalism and punishing success, and start encouraging it again. This is how we turn things around and bring America back.

That's such a tired old line. It's the same thing we heard when Bush cuts taxes, and guess what? Things didn't go "boom" as you promised they would.

The tax increase they're now considering - for only the wealthy - is very modest by historical standards. The rich are going to lose a LOT more if we go over that ol' cliff. Just watch what happens to the market then.

given the S&L disaster after Reaganomics, I'd say Google is a waste of time for anyone who lived through it. Thank Clinton for the only prosperity in the last 30 years.

I did. Came up with this:

From the initiatives that produced the longest period of economic prosperity in our history, to the continuing question of adequate health care for all Americans, to the threat of terrorism, to the ever more partisan struggles in our political life, to the implications of global warming, to the safety of our streets and the soundness of our children’s education—these alcoves remind us of the tasks that history laid upon this last administration of the millennium and how President Clinton’s team came at every problem with focus and a plan for the future.

I guess this is why Clinton is the most popular president in our history.

Read the thread, I explained why. Bush wasn't Reagan. In fact, the Bush family hated Reagan. Remember, Bush was a "compassionate conservative" and his dad believed in "a kinder, gentler America" and they both attempted to blend liberalism with conservatism because they thought it was the "right thing to do." I never promised anything with regard to their ideas.

The tax increases would be fine if they were going to result in increased tax revenues, but that won't happen, and we already know it won't. Obama know this, he said it in 2008, it's not about raising revenues at all, it's about redistributing wealth. It's a failed Marxist Socialist idea that will not work to bring back economic prosperity, so I say... go over the cliff! The "rich" will be just fine, they have their wealth. Let the financial calamity happen and plunge us into a massive recession, that's fine with me! The sooner we feel the hurt the better! Because, at some point, Americans will again turn to the principles of Reagan and conservatism with hope, and we can turn things around again.

I love how Republicans are abandoning current Conservative ideas and struggeling to find an example by going back 25 years to Reagan who had taxes set higher than they currently are. It was Bush who set taxes at the lowest ever. And look at the result!

National Lampoon's Republican Party!

Oh, bull. The CBO concluded that the tax hike will CREATE 1.6 million jobs.

Stay away from the redstates.com talking points.
