Al Jazeera takes over Current TV as the Arab news network looks to expand American audience ... and Al Gore will serve as adviser

Pan-Arab news network Al Jazeera is taking over the embattled American cable channel Current TV, which was founded by Al Gore, the New York Times' Brian Stetler reported.

Al Jazeera will create a brand new New York-based channel - rather than airing its 'Al Jazeera English' over the channel - which it hopes will compete with other major American news networks, such as CNN and NBC.

Current TV, which has become known for its left-wing programming, has struggled to grow its audience since it was launched in 2005.
The channel is available in roughly 60 million homes, and yet just 42,000 customers were watching it on a typical night last year. By comparison, CNN had more than three million viewers on an average night.

Al Jazeera exodus: Channel losing staff over ‘bias’

http://rt.com/news/al-jazeera-loses-staff-335/

Al-Jazeera has long been suspected of lacking objectivity in its reporting of the Middle East. Now one of its most prominent journalists and director of their Beirut office, Ghassan Bin Jeddo, has resigned because of this.

According to Lebanese newspaper, As-Safir, which first broke the story yesterday, Bin Jeddo resigned in protest against Al Jazeera’s coverage of the recent uprisings throughout the Arab world, saying:

Al Jazeera has abandoned professionalism and objectivity, turning from a media source into an operation room that incites and mobilizes.

Al-Safir added that:

Ghassan Ben Jeddo believes Al-Jazeera TV news channel no longer pursues… independent and unbiased policies, and quite conversely, is in pursuit of a certain type of [policy] regarding the brewing uprisings in the region.

Time Warner Cable pulled the plug on Current TV just hours after news of the cable channel’s sale to Al Jazeera became official.

“This channel is no longer available on Time Warner Cable,” read an on-screen message where Current TV used to be found.

Al Jazeera took a major step into the U.S. cable market Wednesday by acquiring beleaguered Current TV and announcing plans for a U.S.-based news network to be called Al Jazeera America. But while the new channel will soon be available in 40 million households, Al Jazeera faced a setback when Time Warner Cable — which reaches 12 million homes — announced it was dropping the low-rated Current, which occupied a spot that could have been switched to Al Jazeera America.

Joel Hyatt, who co-founded Current TV with former Vice President Al Gore, told staff in a Wednesday night memo that Time Warner Cable “did not consent to the sale to Al Jazeera.”

i see howey once again ran away from the discussion after getting pwned with facts

:)

Two stories are not sufficient. There's thousands of stories out there citing the bias of FOX News. Oh...and I'll post in threads when I fucking want to, not when summoned by your stalking ass, Yurtroll.

I am shocked to learn that a news organization has been accused of bias.

No shit....Hello, FOX?

So Gore may not have won the Presidency but he's done quite well for himself economically reportedly pulling in $100 million in this deal. He also stands to earn a large payday with manbearpig as well.

And word is he pushed hard for the deal to close by Dec 31 so he wouldn't pay his fair share in taxes that Obama demanded from the rich like him. Isn't it funny when caring liberals like Algore claim to want to pay more in taxes then do just the opposite?

Don't expect any left wingers to call him out

They are no more biased than FOX, but seeing news from a variety of biases is the only way to be truely informed.

Lol...I just learned the right wing crazies at Glenn Beck's The Blaze are pissed because Gore turned down their offer.

Aren't there enough infomercials on the TV for fool's gold?
