Whoops: PolitiFact's 'Lie of the Year' Turns Out to Be True

Elections over, so the truth can be told....

Last month, PolitiFact selected its "Lie of the Year." Given PolitiFact's dubious record of singling out Republicans for lying far more often than Democrats, you probably could have guessed the winner of this particular sweepstakes was a Mitt Romney campaign ad:

It was a lie told in the critical state of Ohio in the final days of a close campaign -- that Jeep was moving its U.S. production to China. It originated with a conservative blogger, who twisted an accurate news story into a falsehood. Then it picked up steam when the Drudge Report ran with it. Even though Jeep's parent company gave a quick and clear denial, Mitt Romney repeated it and his campaign turned it into a TV ad.

And they stood by the claim, even as the media and the public expressed collective outrage against something so obviously false.

"Public expressed collective outrage"? That's essentially wishcasting on the part of PolitiFact, nor are they accurately representing what Mitt Romney said in the ad. In fact, here's PolitiFact's original "fact check" on the matter:
[Mitt Romney] Says Barack Obama "sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China" at the cost of American jobs.
Ok. Now here's what the Reuters reported earlier this week:

(Reuters) - Fiat (FIA.MI) and its U.S. unit Chrysler expect to roll out at least 100,000 Jeeps in China when production starts in 2014 as they seek to catch up with rivals in the world's biggest car market.

That's been common knowledge and was discussed before. No American jobs are being lost and are, in fact, being gained.

Give up. You're just sounding pitiful.

Romney lost.

Mitsie clearly lied. It certainly cost him Ohio and Michigan. The election is over. President Barack Hussein Obama is the Champion in that contest. Mitsie came in a miserable last place. Get over it or keep it to yourself. Whining like a child isn't making you look or sound any more mature.

See? There was a perfect example of the word parsing that goes on the Right.

Bravo tries to pretend that the lie of the year is in fact truth, by pointing out Jeep is going to build Jeeps in China after all...but the lie was that Jeep was going to do it at the cost of American Jobs...and as you just stated...NO AMERICAN JOBS WILL BE LOST.

The trouble is, Sapforbrains, I didn't write the article...I didn't make the conclusion that the
"lie of the year" is actually the truth.....

Those 100,000 jeeps tha will be manufactured in China would have and should have
been made here.....thus costing US workers jobs.....its common sense....

Wrong.

It's your OPINION that the Jeeps being built in China will cost US jobs...you've provided NO PROOF.

What's sad is I actually contacted and provided quotes from the original author of the story to refute their claims. They just can't quit whining...

Take it up with the professionals at Reuters.....is their conclusion.

And if they will be made be in China....they WON'T be made in the US....costing US jobs.....common sense.

I've explained it all to you before...

the question is, would they have been made in the US at all. if you can show they would have, then your point makes sense.

Wrong.

It's your OPINION that the Jeeps being built in China will cost US jobs...you've provided NO PROOF.

Unless they are bringing Americans to China to build the jeeps, it's not going to be Americans building them, even though Chrysler is based in the US. How do you imagine this can be anything but a loss (i.e., non-creation) of American jobs?

And politifact is still 100% correct.

Bravo is a blithering idiot, but I am really surprised that so many Republicans have abandoned free trade for some partisan bullshit. I don't think this is an issue you want to give new life. Just let Romney's shameful and failed attempt at pandering be forgotten asap.

You're really gonna give us a lame question that you would need a crystal ball to answer ?

There is no question that 100,000 new jeeps WILL be built......in CHINA.....thats a for sure fact...
And after they compare labor costs of the new jeeps, you can
Use your crystal ball to find out when the rest the jeep manufacturing will leave the country....5 years...10 years.....?

(Think US made TV sets)

you don't need a crystal ball, we have the number of jeeps that are going to be built there...the question is...would china have signed the contract if the jeeps were not going to be built there. iow...if they did not agree to build the jeeps there, they wouldn't have got the deal.
