I live in arguably the most liberal city in America and we have a massive homeless problem here. Now a good number of the homeless are drug addicts and/or have mental health issues. We have lots of homeless shelters available so for those who want a bed in the evening can usually have one. There are a number of places that offer free meals so that is a good thing as well. As for the mentally ill we can't do much about it unless we want to change our laws to where we choose to institutionalize them and force them off the street. I've seen both sides of that argued here but there are those who believe that is not the "compassionate" and "caring" thing to do.

We San Franciscans pride ourselves on our "compassion" and "tolerance" and "inclusiveness" and "caring" yet we have this massive problem that we can't deal with.

Any society that allows its poor and disadvantaged to live under bridges, in cars, in cages should hang its head in shame.

In the US we call that freedom....and our cages are for animals, not humans...."homeless" shelters are all over the US.....no one NEEDS to live under a bridge or go hungry unless they choose to and its usually because of mental illness that they do....and the way we allow them to walk the streets and the lack of care for them is a problem here....
and the shoot-em-up crack is just strawmen bullshit that we expect from the ignorant.

Why should I do either? I googled it and got official US figures. As verifiable, I guess, as anything posted anywhere on the internet. So you do the googling because I have proven you wrong and that is just fine by me.
