Look you and I agree on most things, but we disagree on this. And here is my fundamental disagreement. Your rights end when they infringe on the rights of others. And when your car gets stranded in the middle of the road and interferes with the cleanup or causes others to have to come rescue you so you don't die, then you don't have a right to drive.
You do not have a right to infringe on the rights of others.
Lastly, it is a freaking snowstorm. Will it kill you to stay home one freaking day? What is so freaking important that you have to go out and risk your life and the lives of others so you can prove your point that you have unlimited freedom.
Like I said, we agree on most things. Just not this one. You are acting a little like the libs here with the whole "so you're only part statist" schtick. So if I don't agree with your view of freedom 100%, then that makes me a statist? Think that through for a second and see where you land

It's double good that I own a lifted 4WD just for being able to go to work in the snow. I sacrifice gas milage all year so that I can still go out and make money when it snows and now some douchebag denies me the right to make a living.

Power came back on here this morning.
My son rode shotgun in a plow truck for a couple hours this morning and reports whiteout conditions nearly continuous...says they often hit snow drift then realized they were in the wrong (opposite lane). Main thouroughfare through Hyannis (Rt.28, Falmouth Road) blocked by overlapping fallen Phone poles with wires sparking. Hurricane wind force continued until early a:m:. Snow fall unabated; about 12-18" I estimate, with much higher drifts. Lightning and thunder passed. Ultra cool light blue shy color during strikes.
Son reports vigorous police activity with regards to civilian vehicles. One would need to be quite an idiot to drive today without legitimate need.
In that regard; I traveled from my home in South Yarmouth to the marina at Sesuit Harbor on the north shore of Dennis at approximately Midnight, when highest winds were expected.
Naturally I took the roads less traveled.
I found both the town and private marina parking lots un-plowed and impassable so I parked in the street facing the wrong way with the lights on.
Needless to say a police officer happened by, and after I completed my trek to the nearest vicinity from which I could (barely) see my boat, and satisfied it was still secured, I made my way back to talk to him.
I was prepared to present my state issued commercial vessel registration, but he just asked for the vessel name, admitting that I had legitimate cause to travel, but asked that I return home when my mission was complete.
So much for More Paranoid than Most's police state.

The last time we had a storm of this magnitude here, the main roads were littered with abandoned vehicles. The state and towns were forced to lift the cars with their front end loaders and place them off the side of the road, in order to do the job of making the roads passable for ambulance, fire and police.
One stretch of Rt. 132 had 9 such vehicles within just a mile's span.
I traveled the roads twice during this storm, the first time a joy ride in my friend's (legitimate) plow truck, and second in my car.
The prohibition against idiotic misuse of the road made both trips safe and passable.

We had worse storms in each of those years.
No totalitarian dictates were issued then!
The ban on freedom is still in place.
It's testing the water, seeing what they can get away with.
Next it will be a stop all driving order in fine weather, await search and seizure by state enforcers.
Possibly under the guise of an Amber Alert.
Why not issue tickets on cars that got stuck? It makes people who don't know how to drive in the snow or that don't have a vehicle that can get around in the snow learn that they should stay home without keeping people like me from making a living and subsequently getting blamed for holding up projects we're working on. We are equipped for this event and we resent facing a penalty for being prepared

Stamford Ct. Supposed to finish flooring installation job yesterday but I left at 1 pm because I had to drive the work van which really sucked. Almost killed myself in that POS. I have my jeep ready to go today. I figured they would plow the roads like they normally do and I could drive down and finish today. Now I have to finish monday and screw up the schedule for next week possibly making our clients look bad for having to use the storm as an excuse to explain delays. We often work on behalf of very large companies with very influential customers and we go the extra mile to retain the business relationship.
A desk jockey such as yourself could never understand what it takes to get a job done on time.
Even though the governor is to blame, the customer may not know this and all they know is we are late!
