Next faith healing. I mean why not, some crappy studies have shown the power of prayer.

Recognize Acupuncturist as health care providers!

Despite overwhelming evidence of the positive impact acupuncturist have on patient health, they are not recognized as healthcare providers under the Social Security Act and, therefore, cannot be paid by Medicare for therapy management . The Social Security Act does recognize other healthcare professionals such as dieticians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurse midwives, and clinical social workers.

By changing the compensation structure allowed under Medicare, we can ensure that patients have access to the medical expertise of Acupuncturist. Studies have shown that when an Acupuncturist is directly involved in patient care for pain management and other issues, the patient recovers quicker with less medication required.

Gotta disagree. Acupuncture has been shown to be an effective pain management procedure and if it actually does save med costs, I'm all for it.

Nope. No, properly constructed studies have ever shown that acupuncture has any more than a placebo effect. Not all science is equal. There is well done science and pseudo science promoting hokum.

Acupuncture is a highly effective treatment and has been for millennium. To equate it to 'faith healing' simply shows your lack of understanding on what it can accomplish. In an age where our medical system severely over medicates our population, you should open your mind to alternative eastern medical practices.

I don't have a 'properly constructed study', but from personal experience you are 100% wrong. Yours is the typical Western opinion of Eastern Medical practices. Practices that have been performed for several millennium.

It's hokum. No more valuable than prayer.

Right, because you are immune to the placebo effect. Only stupid people experience the placebo effect. /sarcasm. This is why anecdotal evidence is useless.

What is western about my opinion is the reliance on the scientific method. If you can prove the benefits of acupuncture or any other eastern/new age nonsense that I would be all for it.

If a person goes in skeptical of the treatment, the odds of a placebo effect are greatly reduced. That said, you have no evidence at all that it doesn't work to relieve pain. Whereas the Chinese have been using it for pain management for over 2000 years. You would prefer we just mask our pain by bombarding the body with drugs.

The fact that you call Eastern medicine 'new age' simply shows your ignorance on the topic. What science are you relying upon that says acupuncture doesn't work?

and you base this belief on what?

Every study that has accounted for placebo effects and compared it against sham acupuncture. Sham acupuncture (where they just randomly stick you with needles) is just as effective if the patient is unaware that they are not receiving "real" acupuncture.

I did not call it new age. I said AND (or rather I used a "/" to seperate the two). Are you capable of discussing this honestly?

The effects on pain are very short lived, only last as long as the natural opioids and therefore completely useless.
