1) It isn't a claim, it is an opinion
2) The inherent problem with a democracy is that eventually the people will realize they can vote people into office that will give them 'free stuff'. Once this happens, you get out of control debt increases (deficits) and it is the future generations that will end up paying for it. There is no hyperbole. It is a fact. Future generations are going to end up paying for the massive increases to our debt that we have seen over the past 40 years (especially over the last ten). It is the Democrats that are fighting the cuts to spending right now. It is they who support creating yet another entitlement program that we can't afford. Granted the Reps did a horrid job fiscally from 2000-2006 as well. But the point is that the attitude of 'don't cut spending' is a selfish and dangerous one to have.
