White House cancels tours, cites sequestration cuts

White House tours are the latest casualty of the across-the-board spending cuts that kicked in on Friday.

Congressional offices received notice on Tuesday from the White House Visitors Office that the administration was canceling all White House tours starting Saturday because of the budget cuts.

“Due to staffing reductions resulting from sequestration, we regret to inform you that White House tours will be canceled effective Saturday, March 9, 2013, until further notice,” the e-mail said.

“Unfortunately, we will not be able to reschedule affected tours.”

Constituents who want to visit the White House must go through their representatives to schedule a tour, meaning that Congressional offices will be forced to turn away visitors from their districts hoping for a tour of the White House and call others to cancel previously scheduled tours.

In its advisory, the White House made it clear that it understood that the move would inconvenience tourists and could cause a headache for members. “We very much regret having to take this action, particularly during the popular spring touring season,” the e-mail said.

It's the same thing towns do when a community votes against raising a schools budget. The first thing they'll cut are school lunches or bus programs, even though those things make up paltry parts of the budget. It's a spite cut, that doesn't accomplish anything real, other than to stick it to those that voted against them.

I don't think he realizes that he lost and so far appears to not be taking it well. Even the folks on PMSNBC this morning were making fun of him

So you actually think that there is no waste to be cut? You think personnel cuts are needed for that massive 1.2% spending cut this year?

If you had be told you would get $1000 per week and the President's accounts said 'sorry, the deficit is out of control, you can only give her $988 per week' ... do you think that is justification to fire you/lay you off?

This is pure propaganda. Which is why Obama doesn't want Congress to provide him the flexibility to cut where he sees fit. He doesn't want the responsibility. He wants to use fear instead.

Maybe Obama might to cut our 2 or 3 golf trips to Florida with taxpayers money.....that alone would save millions and
the tours could go on.....you should get a job like Monica had, sitting under Obamas desk....at least you could get paid for it.
