the government that you call corrupt to its core was democratically elected by the people.

I am sorry, but you are wrong. The poor loved him, he was their champion. The government he tried to overthrow was corrupt to its core. He also spent time in prison for his attempt.
He had his faults, but nothing like our government tried to portray.
Like I said, that was Venezeuala's problem and, as you noted, his attempted coup failed. That doesn't change the fact that he was a popularly elected head of state when the Bush administration attempted their failed coup and made the US look like assholes.you do realize chavez tried to overthrow a democratically elected leader in 1992, right? He didn't give a shit about the Venezuelan people. he also shut down media organizations that criticized him.
As long as I get to be the top.....Wacko is a natural bottom!![]()
definition of evil regime: democratically elected leader that America doesn't like.
We thought we'd let you drones take a moment of reverence for the passing of one of your idols.Less than an hour later and still no stupid right wing GunGodGop comments. Well done children.
the government that you call corrupt to its core was democratically elected by the people.
Mott, you're as un-American as they come. You look appropriate in pink. What always freaked me out about Chavez is that just how niave Americans are. Like it was Chavzs job to look out for the US best interest. When that moron the shrub attempted his coupe against Chavez I thought there was no way in hell that he could possibly make a bigger fuck up than try attempt a coup against a popular and democratically elected head of state. Boy was I fucking wrong. The fact that his coupe failed was certainly a harbinger of far worse foreign policy fuck ups to come and is a testament to the shrubs incompetence.
The main reason Chavez has been demonized in our country is becuase he was such a stark reminder of how fucking hypocritical we can be in our foreign policy and he was a painful reminder of how badly the US embarassed itself in regards to his popular election in Venezuelia.
Yep, and he went to prison for his attempt, but several years later was democratically elected by the people.
I wonder if he had time to salt away the reported billion pounds that he accumulated over the years? It is amazing that all of these characters who claim to put the people first are very adept at getting their own snouts in the trough. He also increased the national debt five-fold to over $100 billion, so the Venezuelan people will not forget him for a long time.
I wasn't there, were you? So who do you believe. Jon Snow's comment is sufficient for me - neither good nor bad - simply an observation.
Hugo Chavez, the champion of Venezuela's millions of poor was worth over $1 billion at the time of his death having plundered his country's enormous oil wealth according to a respected analyst.
A report from risk assessment and global analysis firm Criminal Justice International Associates (CJIA) alleges that the Chavez family and hundreds of other associates have stolen one-tenth of the $1 trillion raked in by Venezuela since 1999 in oil sales.
The head of the CJIA, Jerry Brewer has said that since Chavez rose to power in 1999, his family have joined in league with criminal organizations to appropriate $100 billion up until his death on on March 5th 2013.
As far as I can see he was just another arrogant prick running a kleptocracy. I know that you will say "Oh well, you can't trust the Mail" but it look like his family will be all right.

I really do not know. Venezuela has never been top of my table of interests so, like you, I must listen (or ignore) those with a greater involvement. There appears to be questions to be answered over wealth accrued by his family and that might, or might not, have been aided by Chavez himself. It doesnt necessarily follow. I have a brother who should have been in prison years ago for perjury and corrupting the course of justice, not to mention stealing and scamming. When taken to court and losing, appealing until the opposing side simply ran out of funds. So if Chavez's family took advantage of his position he is not necessarily guilty...but, of course, he might be. Certainly, as with many who overthrow corrupt regimes, his original intentions were probably good. Ken Livingston (I know you will not accept anyhting from that source), said good things as did many many other public figures. Criticism has come, almost entirely, from the extreme right.
To sum up, I dont know. he seems to have helped the poor of his country and few things are more important than that, America sent a (failed) assassination squad to get him ( so that must be good), he was modest enough (or stupid enough), to ask for assistance from the Uk when he first assumed the presidency, that must be good.
All in all there were many worse and some better.
You wouldn't know what it means to be an American if a bald eagle shit on you.Mott, you're as un-American as they come. You look appropriate in pink.![]()
