Rather similar to hating people with legs because yours were run over by a car.

The rich who have suffered poverty value that time in their life. You can learn a lot by being poor. The rich do not consider that they need to learn anything.

It was an interesting article and I can relate to all of it, but there are a few things that I find a little problematic. Basically, the author is to some extent gulity of the faults for which he is mad at people of other backgrounds.

That is, the author is miffed at others who talk about their experience with school and travel and don't understand what it's like to not have had many choices of schools or any oportunity to travel. But then he does not understand that others are uncomfortable with discussion of his past and is bothered by those who might seek some connection to it by going to "dive bars."

Everybody talks about what they know, feel uncomfortable with what they don't and even a bit envious. Deep down we are all assholes.

Just like it's impossible to understand what starvation feels like by skipping lunch, the rich can never understand what poverty feels like by mere imagination.

Nobody but you can ever understand your experience. Everyone filters the world through their own eyes.

Saw a kid on the street corner today with $299 Dr Dre headphones connected to a $200 iPhone wearing $140 sneakers and $100 jeans.

Ain't poverty a bitch?

And what makes you think he was claiming poverty?

ROTFLMAO!!

Your raging jealousy over the fact the poor might have access to the toys you think only the rich should have is embarrassing.

btw...how do you know for certain they were AUTHENTIC Dr Dre headphones. or sneakers that ACTUALLY cost $140?

OR...just maybe...and here's a REAL stretch...the kid you saw had a JOB and bought those things with his own earnings!

But NOOOOOOOOOOOO your judgemental attitude coupled with your jealousy leads you to believe any kid on any corner MUST have bought the things he has with welfare money, and that fact highlights your pathetic flaws for all to see.

You made lots of assumptions based on things I never even said.

I didn't say he was on welfare. I just pointed out he had lots of expensive stuff that are not essential to living. so it is hard to believe there is all of this poverty you people rant about.

A phone isn't essential to finding and keeping a job?

Shoes an pants aren't an essential part of ones wardrobe and a necessary accoutrement when going outside?

Your jealousy is shining like a beacon for all to see.

You don't think the poor deserve to have the toys you buy for your kids and it makes you angry.

More protection on your part. I don't care what people but with their money. Just don't turn around and cry poverty.

Not surprising that the simple concept is lost on you.

I am jealous of nobody. You never hear me cry that someone has too much an it isn't fair. That is you and your ilk. Nice try at deflection though

I'll admit I'm not following on this one. What does seeing a kid (who I'm assuming we know nothing about) with the items you mentioned tell us about poverty in America or the lack there of?

We know he had a lot of expensive items and ila associated him with poverty. Does anybody think they will need more than three guesses why?

Those are not inexpensive items. One can buy $9 ear buds, $7 sneakers etc.

I don't care what they buy with their own money. Just don't tell me that there is all if this rampant poverty if people can afford that shit.

I'm probably missing something big here but I'm still not getting how one kid having expensive items shows or proves that there isn't poverty in the U.S.
