Cyber Warriors; Now Getting Medals!

Can you imagine if this spreads? Maybe someone from JPP will win one! Anyway, read this whole article it's very interesting, but this from the very end especially caught my eye:

"The Pentagon did not return a request for comment, but spokesman George Little told the Associated Press in late February, "The Defense Department remains committed to honoring the remotely piloted aircraft operators and the cyber warriors as appropriate. This is recognition of their significant contributions and the changing nature of warfare."

When he announced the creation of the award in February, Panetta said "remotely piloted platforms and cyber systems" have "changed the way wars are fought."

The Associated Press also noted that the new award may be handed out without the public ever knowing about it because the actions taken by the recipients may be classified."

Well, an elite class of citizens was not really my major concern upon reading this. What is interesting to my mind is that drone warfare is the warfare of the future. And in fact it seems the Pentagon is attempting to privilege it above traditional warfare and the traditional soldier. Yet we know very little about it, and it does not appear to be governed by traditional rules. I know that we have been getting around the congressional power to declare war for some time now, but this appears to me to be a giant leap over any such niceties.

it shouldn't be a surprise though. for all the pains and gains that the framers of our country went through to ensure that we would never be ruled by a single individual again, it seems that our national stupidity appears to desire just that very thing as we demand our representatives give all this power to a sole executive every 4 years.
