Falklands referendum: Islanders vote to remain British

I was referring to you specifically as you never seem to offer anything of any substance on the issue. Maybe you should stick to selling insurance policies to blue rinse old ladies. I should also thank you for responding to Snarla as I have the slattern on ignore, fuck you very much!!

Odd... I was making the point that you and many other Brits enjoy calling Americans 'war mongers' and 'world police' blah blah blah... then when one of YOU wants our help in a potential hostile engagement then suddenly we are 'neglecting our ally' if we don't come rushing to your aid.

Yes, the US government helped with intelligence in the Falklands War but they were concerned that the Soviets would come to the aid of the Argentinians.

You always post like an excited old lesbian.

Isn't funny how you Americans so easily revert to "blood is thicker than water" mode when dealing with us Brits.

Nope. I would definitely love to hear a reasoned discussion on this topic and was looking forward to one when Low first posted. Your nonsense demanding that Americans keep their opinions to themselves when for years you have done nothing but express your usually useless opinions about American affairs, really took this thread off track. But whatever.

So you don't think that the people that live in the Falklands have a say in how they are governed? How very democratic of you.

For the record, I support Britain in the Falklands, and wish my president did as well.

I do not support you for democratic reasons, as popular sovereignty is vastly overrated, and merely a necessary tool within a free, republican society. I value the alliance between our nations, and short of you killing poor Argentines at wanton, will continue to do so.

Sorry to disappoint you but have not had time to address this more than my first post. The history of the islands is there for all to see and the Argentinians appear not to have been particularly bothered with its ownership until relatively recently.. When the British stumbled upon the islands there were a few whalers and seal hunters but that was in the 16th Century. The rest of the history appears quite complex with all sorts of people claiming sovereignty, but the British having the longest and most definite occupation.
So if we were to ignore, for a moment, the geography of the islands, the British appear to have a greater claim than any other nation. Now, Alaska is closer to Russia than to America, but it is American because it was bought for a pittance and populated by Americans. Hawaii is no where near America but was 'captured' by bible bearing Americans. England was 'captured' by the Romans, but no one expects it to be returned to the Romans... or the danes...or the french.
The fact is that Britain owns the Falklands, the people are british, they have voted overwhelmingly to remain British. So if a bunch of Argies want to make something of that let them try. We beat them once and we'll beat them again...and no, we will not depend on our fair weather friends who have killed nearly all of the people whose country they took over.
There are few, if any, countries that have been 'given' to a foreign power. If we gave the Falklands to Argentina then America better start looking at the territories it has captured...[yes, stupid tit from Phoenix, and china.]
