YES. EXACTLY.

It's a perfect symptom of MLB being run by dumb jock idiots. Closers are MASSIVELY overrated. If your team is up by just one run you are like 95% to win with or without a closers efforts. (not pulling that out of my ass, saw some sabremetrics stuff a while ago. The real world difference a closer makes is negligible it's wasted talent. It's also so stupid when an opposing team might have two guys on base and you bring in a meh-ish middle reliever (trying to save your big gun closer for what reason exactly? use him when most needed!) when you could instead bring in your closer in the 7th instead. The current closers would be better put to use if they were brought in at the first sign of trouble, rather than just coming in to do the wrap up and look like a rock star for 3 outs. dumb dumb dumb.
