What a tragic story

Thank you for that my Alaskan lassie.

So the incidence of rape has not increased over the years. It might have changed slightly but the same 'driving force' that leads men to rape today was in full evidence for all time.
So lets not 'blame' the women, lets not blame the men (whoaaaaa! wait)

Lets blame the fact that as much as we may think we have improved ourselves since the year dot, there are many aspects in which we have been unsuccessful.
I have no idea why a man rapes... it has never even occurred to me for example. They say its a power thing. OK. Underneath it all then, is the fact that we grow our men to be scientists and biologists and IT specialists and bird watchers and boxers, but...
WE NEVER TEACH THEM TO BE MEN
In the west, to be a man, means to exercise masculine power, but no one tells us WHICH power to exercise - so we shoot guns, and drive cars and fight each other and bungee jump and fly to the moon AND RAPE WOMEN.
And I guess there is more likelihood of rape if the man cannot shoot guns, drive cars and go to the moon.

We should be teaching boys in primary school what life is about and how to respect other people not waiting til they rape someone and bang 'em in gaol.
May be we do teach them and fail. Maybe we do teach them and prevent some rapes. But we, as a society, are doing something very wrong when half our population has due cause to be frightened of the other half.

Dunno if that makes any sense.

It makes sense to me. But some of the posters here think that kind of education is emasculating.

Oh come on...let's at least TRY for some new humour.
Why? I've been recycling the same riddles for decades. Good humor never gets old.

Q. How many blondes does it take to change a light bulb?
A. Only one to hold the bulb, but 2 of her boyfriends to pick up the chair she's standing on and turn it.

Q. How many Italians does it take to change a light bulb?
A. 41. One to hold the bulb and ten on each side of the house to pick it up and turn it.

Q. How many Californians does it take to change a light bulb?
A. At least five. One to screw and 4 to share in the experience.

Q. What's the difference between an Irish wake and an Irish wedding?
A. One less drunk.

Q. What's an Irish seven course meal?
A. A six-pack and a potato.

People like this guy reside on another planet. There is nothing about Christie's post that implies she hates men. She is specifically talking bout the accused rapists in this case and further, expresses no hate at all. This poster is literally seeing things. Same thing with sty and his terror of being emasculated. For me, it is fascinating to watch this because I am constantly accused of hating men here and am always stupefied by the claim. After a while you think you aren't expressing yourself correctly. But no, watching this I see clearly; it is not me, it is them.

I'll say one thing about it for sure, real men don't sweat this shit.

I don't sweat this, your opinions matter not at all to me. If you want to go on thinking that rapist hating is going to prevent rape go ahead. It has as much impact as telling the man who left his house unlocked that it's all the robber's fault. Makes the guy feel better I guess, well right up until he comes home to find his house burgled again. You can't control what others do, control what you do.

I'll give you 5/10 for trying and 9/10 for BEING trying.

You play in traffic, don't blame the freakin' drivers that run over you.

Lets break this sentence down.

1. You play in traffic, don't blame the freakin' drivers that run over you.

2. You [do something], don't blame the [subject] that [does something to you].

3. You [get drunk and pass out], don't blame the [guys] that [end up raping you].

Girls really need to be taught to take care of themselves so they don't put themselves in these types of situations.

It's one thing to teach personal responsibility. And not putting oneself in bad situations.

But it's another thing that your very first reaction to the story is "wow that girl fucked up" vs. "wow those guys raped her"

You immediately focus on the women, not the criminals. Which I find odd. (not even being facetious, just genuinely perplexed).

What does my post have to do with hating men? *curious look*

There's no social contract necessary to prevent rape. The woman doesn't have to look or act a certain way to be left alone. The man doesn't have implicit permission for sexual contact even if he believes the woman somehow "asked for it" via her clothing or behaviour. You make it sound like there's an unspoken agreement between the sexes that it's only the woman's obligation to prevent what happens but even then there are a lot of scenarios that don't involve sexual assault.

How about if the woman gets sloppy drunk at the party, the man takes her home? Walks away? Tries to get her sobered up?

Understand this, no person has permission to prey on another who is incapacitated, and it doesn't matter who is the victim and who is the perpetrator. Rape is a crime, not a fortuitous hook-up that one party can't consent to.

This is such a great post.

'She didn't affirmatively say no': Silence means consent according to defense in Ohio high school rape trial where passed out, drunken teenage girl was 'sexually assaulted' by multiple football players | Mail Online
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ally-assaulted-multiple-football-players.html

This is a story that really highlights the moral decay of our society. That these boys would rape a poor girl who can't even walk and that some dirtbag stands by an videos it while laughing proves how far we have sunk as a society.

Girls really need to be taught to take care of themselves so they don't put themselves in these types of situations.

Now before the Vagina Trinity of Christie, Rana and Snarla set thier tampon strings ablaze accusing me of defending rape I am not.

I am merely pointing out that we can not trust the good judgement of others as is obvious in this case. Forget getting raped for a second. Nobody should drink this amount of alcohol an leave oneself that vulnerable. It makes absolutely no sense

Your point is true and important, but in the context of this situation its not approperate. When you make this point about the girl, in the same post about the prosecution of her rapists, it appears as if you are blaiming the victim of the hienous crime. Sure people should take care of theselves. But you dont go to the funderal of a hart attack victim and call him fat, even if he was fat and it led to his death.... if cardiac health is important to you.... you make your statement elsewhere, you dont attack the guy who died.

1) The criminals should be severly punished.

2) People should not get so drunk they can be taken advantage.

These are two seperate points that have no baring on each other and should not be made at the same time, if you do, it appears that #2 is a mitigating factor to #1.

"under the hoop and loop de loop! twist 'round and 'round, go to the ground; through the hole you've reached your goal!"

Man those kind of songs were so fun and motivating, but as I grew up I realized they encouraged a downward critique of oneself . . . you could never fail and it was never your fault if you didn't do it.
