James Holmes, the gunman behind the Dark Knight massacre in Colorado last July, has reportedly turned Muslim and prays five times a day.
The killer showed off a lengthy, thick beard during a court appearance earlier this month, and a prison source has claimed it is a symbol of his new-found faith.
The source said Holmes has turned to Islam as a way of justifying his horrific murder spree in an Aurora, Colorado cinema on July 20 which left 12 people dead and 58 people wounded.

I think this is the 'alternative' if the insanity plea doesn't work. Problem is, it tends towards negating the insanity and becomes a bad shot in the dark.

Would you think him saner or less sane had he joined a christian church? and why?
 
As far as missionary work goes, I know that prisons are prime stomping grounds for both Muslims and Christians. I've heard a few stories of our prisoners learning arabic while incarcerated.

What's perfectly understandable? It's a BS story with dubious sourcing. Does this mean he was Christian or Jewish pre-shooting? If so, let's focus on that.

Questions about Holmes’ conversion to Islam started circulating once the Washington Times published the story, with Salon offering heavy scruntiny.

The site discusses the questionable sourcing, noting the unnamed prison source as a problem, as well as the Daily Mail’s history of false reports.

Salon's main point was that people just ran the rumor as fact:

“It’s entirely possible that Holmes has converted to Islam, and even that he brainwashed himself into ex-post-facto justifying his killing," the site says.

Yet while "James Holmes is severely disturbed, by all accounts, and could delude himself into thinking anything,” ties to Islam are far from established.

Salon contends that Islam itself has become the story here:

“If Holmes suddenly became a devout Pentecostal or Hindu in prison, would bloggers be connecting the religion to the shooting in the way they are now?”

What does it matter? The suggestion that someone who is completely insane converting to ANY religion says anything at all about that religion is warped.
 
meh...most devout in any religion have got to be a nutcase, anyhow. Do you really think a sane person would believe the earth is 6000 years old?

and you're right that anything is possible....apoligists use that phrase often.

In his crazed mind, Islam justifies his murders....which doesn't surprise me.....

and yes, he could have come to the same conclusion with any religion or with no religion....but the fact is, he choose Islam.
