Bad News For the Keystone XL

Darla claims that is your attitude, not hers, you are very confused, lately.

Darla is a bit delusional, keep that in mind when listening to her nonsense. She doesn't think Desh is an idiot. That should tell you all you need to know about her judgement.

I have known Darla for over 10 years, she is not delusional. You don't like Desh because she is outspoken and doesn't put up with your bs. The same reason you aren't getting along with Darla. I know you are use to the type of women that fall all over you with flattery at how brilliant you are, but unfortunately the women who post here aren't your type.

yes, but their left, like our left, doesn't want to build the infrastructure. They just want the oil to magically appear. Note they also blocked the pipeline going through BC.

More bullshit...the left only expect that if oil companies want to build, they do so properly and with the necessary regulation and oversight to prevent the type of catastrophe the people in Arkansas are dealing with right now.

Pure nonsense. Desh is an idiot. Period. It has nothing to do with her being outspoken. It has to do with her non stop partisan stupidity.

Darla is delusional... she read imaginary 'codes' into what people type and reads emotion into people's comments.

You are right... the above is certainly more bullshit.

Who is talking about building Keystone without regulation or oversight? Oh yeah... NO ONE.

You're a joke...you truly are incapable of responding honestly to anything I write!

Whiny pro-business Righties constantly complain about being hamstrung by "needless over-regulation" and how we need to remove the regulatory burden placed by "tree hugging Liberals" on companies trying to open the domestic oil production and refining market here in the USA.

What did I respond to that wasn't honest? You said the left only wants to build with proper regulation and oversight. I am saying that is nonsense because no one is suggesting it be built without proper regulation and oversight. If you say that is all the left wants, that implies that the 'other side' wants the reverse. Which is not true.

What the left wants is for it not to be built at all (at least the environmentalists on the left that we are discussing)

The above is true. There are regulations that are needless, there are regulations that are necessary.

Would you be for additional drilling and production in AK and elsewhere on Federal lands if the regulations and over sight were in place? Many on the left are not ok with it, regardless of regs and oversight.

As compared with your non stop partisan stupidity?

Right...except no new refineries have been built in this country in the past 30 years. Know why?

All the Left wants is for those in the oil business to follow regulatory guidelines when building new refineries...but we are told the regulatory burden is too restrictive and new refinery expansion can't take place.

Every regulation is there for a reason. Because someone at some point tried to find a way around doing the right thing for communities surrounding refineries and the people had to be protected from businesses who won't do right by the surrounding community..

I would be all for drilling and production in AK and elsewhere on Federal land, but only after oil companies demonstrate a real willingness to begin drilling on the parcels they already hold the rights to. If oil companies want to expand drilling on federal land, then they need to get busy drilling on the properties they already hold the leases to and stop whining about regulations.

Yes... do you?

We had excess refining capacity... so the industry consolidated. That said, there is a new facility being built in ND. At the same time refineries in NJ are being shut down.

We are talking about pipelines, why are you diverting to building new refineries? We have mothballed facilities in TX and we can expand existing facilities in TX far easier than we (or Canada) can build new facilities.

yes, but is every reason a good reason? Or is it some knee jerk reaction to an accident? Or perhaps it is there because some environmental group lobbied for it because they don't want the refineries and pipelines built?

No matter what form of energy production we use, there are potential consequences to the environment and the surrounding public. We can try to mitigate that as much as possible, but risk reward is always a factor, as is cost.

You understand why they don't drill on some of the land they have rights to? On some parcels they don't have the ability (today) to get to the oil in an economically viable way. In others the unused land in the leases simply doesn't have enough (or any) oil. But the leases remain as they are contracts the government gets fees from. It is the cost of doing business with the government. They can't simply turn the leases back in and stop paying if no economically viable oil is found. In addition, some of the 'idle' leases simply take time to get up and running for production. It can take 5-10 years depending on location. Further you add in the political side of the coin which can cause land to be unused. All that and we still haven't gotten to the environmental groups that enjoy blocking and delaying projects.

Curious Zappa... would you prefer they 'get busy drilling' those deep sea leases vs. getting new leases on land? Which has the greater potential for environmental damage should an accident occur?

another problem with pipelines is terrorists both domestic and foreign...and nut cases that use them for target practice...like in Alaska

the ones over water ways are particularly vulnerable
