8th grader suspended and arrested for wearing an NRA t-shirt??

and you think they were voting for who, prior to that......

I don't believe social issues were very significant in the political arena prior to that. The Southern conservatives identified with the Democratic party strongly from the Civil War until the late 1960's. but there was not a Republican party prior to that. They left the Democratic party (with regards to national politics) when Johnson used the National Guard to integrate the University of Alabama. They had the Dixiecrats for a while but that was absorbed by the Republican party. Gov. Wallace was a strong social conservative and very long term Democratic Gov. of Alabama.

Yes the Social Conservatives of the south supported the Democrats until Johnson alienated them and Nixon pandered to them.

what do you mean by 'there was not a Republican party prior to that'???

It was basically a Northern and Western Party for its first 100 years, then in the 1960's it flipped and became mostly a Southern and Western party.

Then, according to you, China is a free country; because look at what they're doing in Tibet. :palm:

China is a special case... Imagine a developing version of the US with a long term budget surplus, no social safety net, and a government/PS that exert a massive amount of control over the workforce.

It's not a free country, primarily for economic reasons.

OH-SO China is a special case!!
By the way, they are not a developing nation akin to the US; plus add in that China has been around as a Nation, longer then the US.

sorry, but I think you will find social conservatives have always been faithful voters.....far more so than liberals who probably would have to be considered non-existent prior to the Vietnam War protests and didn't win an election until Clinton.....

Kramer would probably be a better characterization... :)

this one for Rana, definitely....
