My future mother-in-law is a JW. That's far above where she started as a devout Pentecostal. They are truly the weirdest of all Christian sects.

Three stories about JW's.
One night, years ago, I was working on my pickup and was covered in oil and grease.
While I'm working, two JW's showed up and wanted to talk to me.
I told them "Sure; but I have to finish fixing the truck and could one of you hold this wrench, from the top, on this bolt, while I crawl underneath and tighten the nut".
They both left.
Another time a man and a women showed up at my house and wanted to talk.
I invited them in and during their discussion; then said that no one could be held responsible for a sin, until they knew it was a sin.
I then said I had a question.
"Did this mean that if Hitler never woke up in the middle of the night and questioned whether he was wrong or not; that he wasn't responsible and would go to Heaven?"
They both left.
Saved the best for last
I wasn't involved in this one.
Two friends of mine were renting a house, before I knew them, and they used to throw some wild ass parties, on Friday nights.
After one memorial Friday night party; there was a knock on the door, Saturday morning.
One of the guys opened the door, BUCK NACKED.
Both of the JWs left and never came back.
I had a Supervisor who was JW when I was working in the IT field in the private sector....when 9/11 happened... he would not let us put up any flag, any picture of say... oh crap.. remember the picture of the eagle with the tear coming out of it's eye with the WTC in the background?
Anything like that...it left a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth about JW's. I mean, I forgive him...it's what he believes.... but he forced it on the rest of us. I always remember that....and I will never do that to someone else.
No, neither of those occurred. I said Christianity was not a necessary source of moral principles and I reiterated what Krauss had said about the dangers of a false sense of certainty.
You never touched theology but instead started babbling about some lesson you learned from a naughty movie (are you allowed to watch those or did you go to confession). I made you look like a fool and you never really made clear what your point was.
But yeah get on (not back you were never on) track. Then maybe maybe you should apologize for the false accusation you made against me. That's a sin you know? But maybe we can exclude you as no longer Christian like the you do others.

Does she know you are Catholic? She must not be hardcore, because they usually stick to their own kind and disown non practicing family.

I think your imitation of a Christian is greatly lacking. I think you need to practice a little more.
I often wonder if these fine examples would act the same way in front of their priest or pastor as they do on here.

OK...I will speak for myself....I am against forcing people to follow my path....I don't agree with abortion....but I understand it. There are a hell of a lot of scared girls and women out there with no where to turn and no way to raise a child when it comes due in 9 months. I happen to believe that God....knowing the hearts and minds of us all...will forgive the vast majority of them and allow them into heaven.
I don't agree with homosexuality...but they are full fledged citizens of this country and deserve the right to be as happy or as miserable as anyone else in the long term, legally binding, benefit sharing relationship known as marriage as anyone else in this country. I also believe that homosexuality is not a choice. If you don't know by now....I work with the developmentally disabled. There are people that I serve who have NEVER been exposed to gay culture, mannerisms and attractions...but you would swear that they were reading out of the feminine handbook. That tells me that people are born that way....at least for the most part.
I am against teaching religion in public schools. I am, however... very cool with the idea of a (insert religion) "club" at public schools...one that is strictly voluntary and meets during study halls or extracurricularly.
In short....I'll live MY life the way I see fit....and I allow others to do the same.

You use your religion to argue for public policy. You are probably the worst as, again, I don't think I have ever heard you argue without reference to your favorite fairy tale. Politicians do it as well. People are killing each other over religion, wasting resources and holding us back. They insist that it must be taught in schools and act with animus towards anyone who dares to deny the existence of God. Atheists, agnostics and the unaffiliated are a growing force and are resisting. This movie and the attention it is receiving is a testament to that.
I believe in established facts until they are proven false, not nothing. It's not a religion.

I did not preach anything. I posted a thread about a movie I knew others would be very interested in about two fascinating people. You started ranting and raving about tele- evangelist and Hannibal Lecter and patriot66 demanded that I remain silent. You two are overly sensitive and threatened by competing ideas. Tough shit.

Well, the last several years have seen her alienated from her family a great deal, to the point that really only my girlfriend is a part of my life. Actually, she loves me, and gets along better with me than with her daughter.
