The Unbelievers

Actually if you want to play the definition game, atheism is not a religion.

In the sense that they base their views on a belief (ie... they have faith) that they can neither prove nor disprove, then it most certainly is a religion. Just look at the behavior of the fundamentalist in both groups. When discussing their views they insist they are 'correct' and everyone else 'stupid/wrong'. The more radical will use violence to suppress those that dare to disagree.

No, religion is defined by the belief in a supernatural being, you will have to find another word, sorry.

And some of us don't? I wasn't just referring to them....I was also referring to Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians too.

Why can't we all just believe what we believe and allow others to do the same? All of us.

I agree with you. I was simply stating why it is that fundamentalism attitude exists within atheism just as it does within any religious faction. People like String insist they are correct and others 'stupid'. They will not allow for people to believe 'both'. They must ridicule and mock those with other views on religion.

For the record, I am Agnostic... which probably drives most fundamentalists nuts... but I do believe everyone has a right to their views. For the most part I do not mock religions... though I slip upon occasion when dealing with Scientologists.

LOL... yes, the technical definition is the above. But as I stated, in the sense that they base their views on FAITH, not fact, they are every bit the same.

Science isn't something you "believe" in. It and math, unlike religion, are the two fields closest to dealing in absolute truths. So you can't just say you "believe" in science, as you say you believe in religion. Two very different fields.

science is a method.....the absolute truths are not science, they are simply the object of the method of investigation......have you ever heard someone say "science will eventually find the answer"......if so, you have met a true believer......

what you are failing to remember is that atheism IS a religious belief. An Atheist is going to do everything thing they can in the name of their religion to be 'right'. They must have the absolute in order to justify their faith that their belief that God does not exist is correct.

Complete nonsense. You sound more and more like dumbass ditzy all the time.

actually, it isn't.....many religions do not have a supernatural being, teaching instead that humans reincarnate, or become one with the natural universe......

Do you have faith that unicorns, Santa Claus and leprechauns don't exist, or do you just lack belief in those things while being relatively certain they are a fiction? Atheism is not a religion. It is not a shared set of beliefs or practices. It is simply a lack of a belief.

Reincarnation is dependent on the notion that consciousness or the soul is of a supernatural quality. It is a part of a group of shared beliefs and practices.

Atheism does not teach anything.

I choose to believe unicorns do not exist. You choose to believe God does not exist. Both are choices. You share that belief with about 7% of Americans. You practice idiocy. You are religious.

Fundamentalist above... just as I stated... they want to be 'right' so bad they will mock those that don't believe as they do.

It is like a religion... which is why you insist others are 'stupid' for daring to believe or have faith in something other than your views. Because to you, your faith in the lack of God's existence is right and everyone else must thus be wrong and 'stupid'

that is where you are wrong... it is not a lack of belief, it is an insistence that God does NOT exist... and for fundamentalists like you... you insist your faith is the correct one.

A lack of belief is Agnostic, not Atheist. We do not have faith either way with regards to Gods existence. We let others believe how they choose and do not try to force them to our way of thinking via ridicule.

I mock you because you are making a stupid argument not because you believe in God.

Basically, you are claiming that all beliefs are equal. It's a frustratingly stupid argument and really kind of childish.

But go ahead and tell yourself that you are being persecuted.

No, I did not say all beliefs are equal...

I did not say I was being persecuted. I am agnostic... I don't care one way or the other if God exists or not.

What I did say is the traits found in religion are also found in atheism. The insistence that you are right and others 'stupid' for their BELIEFS. The adamant views of aethists that God does not exist are no less adamant than the most die hard found in any religion. The similarities are there, you simply do not wish to see them because you feel you must prove that your beliefs are the correct ones.

Nope. Agnostic means a lack of knowledge or certainty. You are a theist. You are just too chicken shit to say it. You do ridicule atheists as being religious and practicing a faith which is just complete horseshit. Based on your absurd definition agnosticism is a religion.

Claiming atheism to be a religion is like calling baldness a hair style. Atheism is the absence of faith accompanied by strict reliance on reason.
