The Force is With Me
Spokesman Says Incident 'Regrettable,' McCain Didn't Know

Sen. John McCain’s Monday decision to sneak into Syria for a photo-op with rebel commanders is quickly going from publicity stunt to embarrassment, with the revelation that one of the “commanders” in question is the head of a kidnapping ring.

According to freed kidnap victims, the photo shows Abu Ibrahim, the leader of the rebel Northern Storm brigade, which has been fighting in Aleppo and whose strategy has centered around kidnapping foreigners and Shi’ites and holding them for ransom.

McCain’s spokesmen have issued statements terming the incident “regrettable,” but insisting that McCain had no way of knowing who the rebel commanders he took pictures with were, adding that none introduced themselves as Abu Ibrahim

Which of course underscores the problem with McCain’s visit. He was eager to endorse the rebels and rushed headlong into the country to give his imprimatur to the civil war, but he showed little interest in finding out who the rebels he was posing with were, or what they stood for. That they were on the side of a war that McCain is hoping to suck the US into was simply good enough for him.

McCain crosses paths with rebel kidnapper

Republicans are incredibly ignorant.

see what happens when you work against the president of the United states for cheap poltical points

Unfortunately democrats won't be able to score political points from McCain's latest display of ignorance.

These are the same people that Obama .. and democrats backed in Libya.

By now it should be clearly obvious that the Bush foreign policy is absurd and detrimental to this country no matter who is conducting it.

I thought that basically the purpose of his trip was to fluff himself as some big Syria expert so he could go on the morning shows this Sunday as the "expert" on the rebels and why America needs to get involved on their side. I mean he is a total warmonger so that was the impression I had. I never knew Pelosi to do anything even close to that, but I don't remember what she was being criticized for. It's not so much that I think he went there to make Obama look bad, I think he went there to get us into a war. For all I know he went with Obama's behind-the-scene blessing. Though I doubt it as these two seem to sincerely dislike each other.

what good for America did McCain do this country by taking this trip?

He unintentionally demonstrated to all the world that American foreign policy should not be followed and why it should not be followed..

He validated our geopolitical ignorance .. and has made the Russians and Chinese look like the real peacekeepers.

McCain has caved in so many ways to the tea party that he has proven he values more his carreer than the country.

he walks the line of lies and uses them to keep hsi job.

the idiot probabaly still thinks he can be president.

Didn't he have anyone in his staff to pull him aside to say wait a minute .. we don't know who these people are?

McCain has a serious dislike for Obama .. but I don't believe it's racial. He went there to make Obama look bad and himself look like the leader of the free world.

This actually will make it more difficult for Obama to get more deeply involved in what is already a lost cause.

Uh-Oh .. the story I posted may be false.

Who Was That With McCain? Not Syrian Kidnappers, NGOs Say

Sen. John McCain did not meet with any Syrian kidnappers, during his secret visit to Syria this week, despite what you might have read.

The Daily Beast reported exclusively on McCain’s Memorial Day jaunt over the Turkey-Syria border to meet with assembled leaders of the Free Syrian Army and its supreme military command, led by Gen. Salem Idris. On Thursday, The Daily Star, a Lebanese newspaper, reported that McCain “crossed paths” with Mohammad Nour and Ammar Al-Dadikhi (aka Abu Ibrahim), two men who were part of a group that kidnapped Lebanese religious pilgrims who were returning from Iran in May 2012. Both are part of Asifat al Shamal, a Syrian rebel group also known as the Northern Storm, which controls a portion of country’s northern border with Turkey.

Northern Storm has been implicated in the alleged kidnapping of 11 Lebanese Shia men who were traveling through Syria on the way back from Iran. Relatives of the abducted men were said to have identified the two as the kidnappers from a photo of the McCain visit.

Yet they identified the man in the photo as Abu Ibrahim, who has been listed as missing and presumed dead. The Daily Star reported that a rival rebel group had injured Ibrahim in March, after which he was taken to Turkey, where he died in a hospital. The man said to be Nour by the Lebanese press never identified himself to McCain or anyone else and that man was not inside McCain’s meeting with the rebels, two American NGO workers who were there on the scene told The Daily Beast on Thursday.

“Nobody self-identified as Nour, and none of the guys who were standing outside were in the meeting with McCain,” said Mouaz Moustafa, executive director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force, an American nonprofit that helped organize the McCain trip. Moustafa is in the picture and was also inside McCain’s meeting with the rebel commanders, along with Task Force policy director Elizabeth O’Bagy.

A photo from inside the meeting posted on O’Bagy’s Twitter page confirms that the man alleged to be Nour was not in the McCain meeting.

Yep, it does appear that the report was incorrect.

My apologies ..

.. although I still question the wisdom of McCain's visit.

what was McCain trying to do by going to Syria?

How did it aid this country?

I would take you more seriously if you questioned EVERY politician that pulls shit like this. Of course your indignation is only in one direction. Why don't you just call him a racist and be done with it?

White House was aware of McCain's trip to Syria in advance
