OT: Roy Hibbert's "No homo" comment

For those who may not have heard Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert in a post-game interview Saturday night said, "... Lebron James stretched me out, no homo". At the end of the interview he referred to the media covering the NBA as mother f*ckers. For that effort the NBA fined him $75k.

I'm assuming everyone has heard the 'no homo' comment before but for anyone who hasn't another example would be "I love Tiger Woods, no homo" i.e. i'm not a gay or not in a gay way.

I read this attached article on a sports board and it was quite the eye opener. This is from a young black male author who is quite opinionated on the racial aspect of this fine.

(I've never heard of this writer. I'm not suggesting he has any followers or speaks for anyone other than himself.)

Hibbert:

I am apologizing for insensitive remarks made during the postgame press conference after our victory over Miami Saturday night. They were disrespectful and offensive and not a reflection of my personal views. I used a slang term that is not appropriate in any setting, private or public, and the language I used definitely has no place in a public forum, especially over live television. I apologize to those who I have offended, to our fans and to the Pacers’ organization. I sincerely have deep regret over my choice of words last night.

He also tweeted Jason Collins to personally apologize.

It's uphill, but homophobia within our major sports leagues is going to end.

btw - you do know this blogger is Congressman Keith Ellison, right?

the blogger is a Congressman? that I didn't know.

He made a quick and serious sounding apology!
No harm, small foul

He's a young guy who obviously hasn't been exposed to the limelight very much. I believe his apology was sincere, and will in future will select his words more carefully.

No harm, small foul

From the headline, I thought it was going to be something like, oh he said "no homos allowed" or something. I have not heard this expression (as if the Kato debacle hadn't made me feel old enough), but I get the implication, he wasn't expressing hate. I would say lesson learned, move along.

BTW I think it is hilarious you have no idea who Keith Ellison is and were all like, yeah some obscure blogger wrote this, as if you had stumbled upon Superfreak's unvisited blog or something. That made my day Cawacko.

With regards to Ellison's comments, I respectfully disagree .. seriously disagree. It isn't white people molding our vocabulary .. we should be molding it ourselves. WE should be teaching that it's no more acceptable to use 'homo' than it is to use the N word.

Rep. Ellison .. who are you teaching that it is acceptable to say any fucking thing you want to just because 'we' say it?

As a Muslim, I think Mr. Ellison should choose his words carefully as well.

I've heard of Keith Ellison. I've not heard of Hakeem Muhamad. How was I suppose to know they were one and the same?

He should be punished, they should immediately trade him to New Orleans for cultural enhancement.
