since ignorance of the law is no excuse.....

Tomorrow, 400 new federal laws take effect. In the states, the number is 29,000. You have them all memorized, right?

how would you know if you are breaking the law or not?? how do you expect cops to enforce all of those laws, unless they have them memorized as well?

We're waiting for you to live up to your Moniker and recite from memory all 29,000 new laws.

After all, you wouldn't expect others to do something you yourself can't do, now would you?
then ask yourself why YOU apply a different standard between cops and civilians?

If a person carries a gun, openly, down the street and it's completely legal, why should a cop not be held responsible for arresting him unlawfully? If a person carries a gun, openly, down the street and it IS illegal, why should he be held responsible if he didn't know it was against the law?

The huge majority of those "laws" are not laws that can be broken, they are not necessarily criminal laws.

It of course depends on the law, but when laws change drastically - like when the laws went in saying that drivers couldn't use cell phones unless they were hands-free - generally cops gave warnings for awhile.

Pretty sure when gun laws change drastically - i.e. open carry becomes legal somewhere- cops are fully informed.

If not, the person is let go and there is no charge against them

Oh, I forgot - you hate the police.

What's your alternative?

Someone in a police uniform did something awful to STY when he was younger for him to harbor this much hate for the police.

I just don't know why it would matter to me what the new environmental limit for the height of a smoke stack on a coal power plant in the northern District of Mississippi is?

I don't need an excuse for not knowing a law that will not affect me.

THINK FOOL....if you don't know a law, how tf can you know it won't affect you ?

one would THINK that, but that is hardly ever the case. and in some instances, even when the law is CLEARLY established, most cops simply try to work around the issue and harass the person using another law, for instance charging disturbing the peace when open carrying simply because someone was alarmed at the sight of a gun.

golly gee, i've never been told that before

What's your alternative?
seriously, i've given you the solution. if it's not to your liking, just admit that you're in support of the elite class of citizens known as cops.

Someone in a police uniform did something awful to STY when he was younger for him to harbor this much hate for the police.
assumes facts not in evidence, for one. two, someone has to be a real moron not to see the disparity of treatment given to cops and citizens in the justice system and be 'ok' with it.

I just don't know why it would matter to me what the new environmental limit for the height of a smoke stack on a coal power plant in the northern District of Mississippi is?
but it COULD matter to you that there's a new law that mandates you to put a license plate on the FRONT of your car, or that a new noise ordnance went in to effect and your 4 barrel 357 chevy engine is now too loud, or that a permit is now required for you to have a childs birthday party in your backyard.

any number of laws can affect you in some way, shape, or form, so the direct question is WHY should ignorance of that law NOT be an excuse for you as a civilian, but a law 'not clearly established' for a cop that arrests you for an alleged violation that really wasn't?

The huge majority of those "laws" are not laws that can be broken, they are not necessarily criminal laws.

Yet the average american breaks four laws a day, knowingly or not, so as STY pointed out, your input is irrelevant.
