Why no mental background checks?

Most states require background checks to buy a gun, if not all. And background checks included certain types of mental standards, like if a person has ever been involuntarily committed.

background checks already exist... it is a federal law that all dealers do a background check.

gun background checks and mandatory training for anyone who wishes to purchase and passes the background checks.

then we can come up for punishments for failing to follow the training instructions for proper storage.

We could even employ checkups to see how people are storing them

Most states have mandatory training of some type. However, some do not, like my state of WA. Neither does PA.

THere is absolutely NO data that shows that gun accidents are fewer in states WITH mandatory training and without. None. So forcing it on people is pointless and costly.

What that means, btw, is that gun owners are responsible enough to get the training they need ON THEIR OWN. Many grow up with guns. Many grow up hunting. Lots just enjoy shooting and get training. Many take self defense of their families and selves seriously and get more training.

How do you assume people dont get training or that it makes a different in gun accidents?
