Pope issues mission statement for papacy

Yes, any organization of men becomes corrupted. I believe that the teachings of Christ would be better served by small groups of 10 or 15 family communities that could meet regularly and do the work of Christ. Otherwise politics, greed and corruption get in the way, especially when the business of the organization claims to be something as powerful as the will of God.

When you look at how powerful the Catholic Church was and where it is today you can see that we have been able to separate ourselves from the yoke of that oppression by weakening the church, but if the Church were clean and more spiritual, weakening it would not have been necessary. In many ways America was founded on the waive of weakening Church influence upon Western Civilization. The ideals of liberty and freedom that sprung from the French Revolution and had their roots in Lutheran Germany put the Church where it is today.

The hierarchy of the Church is learning that in the modern world their only power will come from an authentic representation of true spirituality.

Correction. Any organization of men where excessive wealth and power/influence is involved will become corrupt.

The problem with the Catholic Church is that many of it's members lack Scriptural knowledge. How can you do the work of Christ, if you don't even know what it is?

Yes, Christianity has been divided and thus weakened. We are too busy fighting each other while the enemy laughs(all the way to the bank) and watches in entertainment.

America was founded by people(protestants) escaping persecution from the Catholic Church in Europe.

The Church was already a millennium old when the great schism occurred in 1054, and nearly 1500 years old when Luther posted the theses. Also, the Church basically addressed his arguments during the course of that century.
OK...so they're slow...what's your point?

Are you saying that Luther inspired mass murder and atheism, Jarod? It's kind of harsh comparing him to the French Revolution. :D

The French revolution as far as I know? Had more to do with corruption, then with religion. Basically the nobles wanted to take the monarchy out of power. The people helped the nobles to victory but then realized they were even worse then the monarchs so the people rose against the nobles.

Luther inspired free thinking faith, as opposed to blind obedient faith. Luther may have also inspired the Holocaust as he was as anti-semetic as can be. For some reason or another, Luther despised the jews......

It is a lesson to all of us not to go along with what's easy and popular, even if it means quarrelling with good people who are muddled.
