MI veto-proof ‘rape insurance’ close to becoming law w/ 4.2% voter approval

No, it means it becomes a ballot initiative and the voters of the State will decide.

But articles say it's already settled. Do you mean people will get a chance to vote on this?

LANSING — A controversial initiative requiring women to buy additional insurance if they want abortion coverage in their health insurance plans passed the Legislature Wednesday afternoon and will take effect 90 days after lawmakers adjourn for the year.

I thought libertarians were pro-choice. Why should someone have to pay a penalty for being a crime victim?

While certainly not anywhere near the same type of crime, we do all pay via homeowners/renters insurance for protection against burglary. If you want your car protected against theft, there is insurance for that.

Why would you be ok forcing people to pay for abortion coverage, but not be ok with people CHOOSING to pay for abortion coverage?

In the case or Rape? That's a specious argument. Should have to choose acts of violence insurance? Kinda defeats the purpose of health insurance, does'nt it?

Why is it okay for a fringe element to force this into law, rather than making it a voter initiative?

Try reading Mutt. It is ABORTION coverage. Period. Not specifically rape. It is if you want abortion coverage, you can choose to add it. But no one is forced to have coverage which in essence shares the costs of killing kids... some of us find that abhorrent.

I am not up to speed on how this works in Michigan, I don't agree with HOW it came into being if somehow a minority can simply 'make law' by getting signatures. I was speaking to the content of what was passed, not how it was passed.

what 'right' is being taken away from you? You have the CHOICE to buy insurance to cover abortions if you choose. But your position is that EVERYONE should be FORCED to pay for abortion insurance. Why is that?

It's about the crime of rape and a possible resulting pregnancy. Are you saying it's okay for the victim to get screwed by the system?

I remember a few years ago the controversy about rape victims in Alaska having to pay for their own evidence-gathering kits (no, this isn't about Palin but about the system).

How much more heartless can cons get?

Well as my thread title and initial comments state, it's about a minority group pushing this into law.

Ok time to demand DICK insurance.

you put your dick in and someone gets pregnant then you have to pay a DICK fee to the state.

It means you have to pay for the kids you have forced to exist through shitty lwas designed to strip women on their rights to deside what happens to the very flesh inside their bodies.

DICK insurance coming to a state near you soon

sounds good to me, however, when i was younger i made sure that i carried birth control foam with me thinking that even if my partner had birth control (i admit that i did not ask) i had protection thinking (silly me) that birth control was at least as much my responsibility as my partners. this was before i got married or had sex with partners that i knew had hysterectomies...or were past menopause

i definitely believe in murphy's law...sort of a suspenders and belt approach

Policies cancelled and reissued according to the new minimum guidelines. A major point that everyone fails to address.
guidelines issued OUTSIDE of the law when it became apparent that Obama and his lie was not going away. a major point that liberals like to ignore

Technically all my insurance policies (health, auto, homeowner) get "cancelled" every year and replaced with what the company wants me to have for the new year, and I don't have much choice in the matter.
you seriously want to go with that??????
