[h=1]PolitiFact’s Lie of the Year: President Obama’s 'If you like your health care plan, you can keep it'[/h]
We counted dozens of times that President Barack Obama said that if people liked their health plans, they could keep them.

It was a catchy political pitch and a chance to calm nerves about his dramatic and complicated plan to bring historic change to America’s health insurance system.

"If you like your health care plan, you can keep it," President Barack Obama said — many times — of his landmark new law.

But the promise was impossible to keep.

So this fall, as cancellation letters were going out to approximately 4 million Americans, the public realized Obama’s breezy assurances were wrong.

Boiling down the complicated health care law to a soundbite proved treacherous, even for its promoter-in-chief. Obama and his team made matters worse, suggesting they had been misunderstood all along. The stunning political uproar led to this: a rare presidential apology.

For all of these reasons, PolitiFact has named "If you like your health care plan, you can keep it," the Lie of the Year for 2013. Readers in a separate online poll overwhelmingly agreed with the choice.

The people have spoken, congrats, Liar-in-chief....

Coming in at a respectable 2nd Place would be that there was "no question" that Assad used chemical weapons in Syria.

Putin had questions, and no other country rushed to back up Obama's claim.

Hilarious. You cons hated Politifact before you loved it.

2009
In December 2009, they declared the Lie of the Year to be Sarah Palin's assertion that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2009 would lead to government "death panels" that dictated which types of patients would receive treatment.[SUP][5][/SUP]

2010

In December 2010, PolitiFact.com dubbed the Lie of the Year to be the contention among some opponents of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that it represented a "government takeover of healthcare". PolitiFact.com argued that this was not the case, since all health care and insurance would remain in the hands of private companies.[SUP][6][/SUP]

2011

PolitiFact's Lie of the Year for 2011 was a statement by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) that a 2011 budget proposal by Congressman Paul Ryan, entitled The Path to Prosperity and voted for overwhelmingly by Republicans in the House and Senate, meant that "Republicans voted to end Medicare."[SUP][7][/SUP] PolitiFact determined that, though the Republican plan would make significant changes to Medicare, it would not end it. PolitiFact had originally labeled nine similar statements as "false" or "pants on fire" since April 2011.[SUP][8][/SUP]

2012

For 2012, PolitiFact chose the claim made by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney that President Obama "sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China" at the cost of American jobs.[SUP][9][/SUP] (The "Italians" in the quote was a reference to Fiat, who had purchased a majority share of Chrysler in 2011 after a U.S. government bailout of Chrysler.)[SUP][10][/SUP] PolitiFact had previously rated the claim "Pants on Fire" in October.[SUP][11][/SUP] PolitiFact's assessment quoted a Chrysler spokesman who had said, "Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China."[SUP][9][/SUP]

The conclusion that this is a lie is a little premature....Palin said "It would lead to gov. death panels".....Obamacare isn't really in effect yet so we
have some time to go before we'll know what it will lead to.....

Really depends on who is defining what
a "government takeover of healthcare" means....Gov. mandating what the insurance policy must cover and the fact
that it mandates its against the law not to buy healthcare insurance....I'd define it as a gov. takeover .....for all practical purposes....

This is only one of hundreds of lies coming from the DCCC...I'm sure there were others more deserving of the 'pants of fire' award.

Fiat recently agreed to locate Jeep assembly near the base of Guangzhou Automobile Group (2238) Co. in the Panyu district of Guangzhou, backing off a previous plan to use another site, the people said asking not to be identified because the talks are private. The accord is still subject to final approval, one of the people said.

The agreement paves the way for Jeep, which was the first foreign brand to be assembled in China in 1983, to make a return after production stopped in 2006. The move could tie up additional capital as Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne seeks to forge a global automaker by merging Fiat and Chrysler.
The Chinese government approved Guangzhou Auto and Fiat’s plan to invest 4.7 billion yuan ($770 million) in a new factory, which will have an initial production capacity of 60,000 units a year, according to a statement posted on the website of the Development and Reform Commission of Guangzhou Municipality earlier this year.
Building Jeeps in China that could have been built here will cost Americans jobs...Chrysler spokesman who had said, "Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China."
Notice...THAT is not what Romney claimed in the first place....Romney's claim was absolutely true and is now becoming reality.

All proving that Politifact is just another left leaning cite that posts mostly bullshit and propaganda slanted to the left....

Cliff notes version:

Cons support Politifact when Dems are called out (2011, 2013) and oppose it when repubs are called out (2009, 2010,2012).

IRMC.

Well, if we didn't 'support them the few years they get it right, you'd be bitching more....

my logic for answering the Palin and Romney lie accusations are valid and the other one is a matter of opinion...

unless you can refute my logic.

Calling a prediction, a lie just because if hasn't come true yet is ridiculous and petty....

mis-characterizing what someone says and then calling it lie is just plain dishonest....

And, in the interest of accuracy....you never made a case to rest.

Most of Obamacare has been implemented already. I wonder if you ever called out the insurance companies for their "death panels"? I wonder if you did or will sign up for Medicare.

And, Rmoney lied. Deal with it.

"...the Jeep ad was brazenly false.

It started as a line in a speech about where an American brand of car would be made. It blew up into a lie heard by voters well beyond Ohio. Chrysler was one of the companies that received billions in loans from the federal government. The government ended up forcing Chrysler into bankruptcy in 2009 when its debtholders couldn’t reach an agreement. Since Chrysler emerged from bankruptcy, the Italian car company Fiat has held a controlling interest.

By 2012, Chrysler and other automakers were doing much better -- a fact that confounded Romney. In Ohio, a major expansion of its Toledo plant was in the works for the Jeep Liberty. In Detroit, the company was hiring workers to build the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

But Chrysler was thinking of reviving the Jeep brand in key foreign markets, and like other American automakers, Chrysler preferred to build cars in the countries where it intended to sell them -- a common strategy to reduce tariffs and transport costs.Bloomberg reported on Oct. 22 that the company was planning to restart production of Jeeps in China. The entirety of the Bloomberg report made it clear that Chrysler was considering expansion in China, not shuttering American production.

But one conservative news outlet seized on the report’s opening lines. The Washington Examiner’s Paul Bedard blogged on Oct. 25 about the Bloomberg story and incorrectly wrote that Jeep was "considering giving up on the United States and shifting production to China," a move that would "crash the economy in towns like Toledo, Ohio … ." The conservative Drudge Report then linked to Bedard’s post under the headline, "Jeep eyes shifting production to China."Within hours, Chrysler spokesman Gualberto Ranieri responded on Chrysler’s company blog.

"Let’s set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China," Ranieri wrote, adding, "A careful and unbiased reading of the Bloomberg take would have saved unnecessary fantasies and extravagant comments."

But later that night at a
in Defiance, Ohio, Romney added a new line to his stump speech:

"I saw a story today, that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep, now owned by the Italians, is thinking of moving all production to China," he said, to boos from the audience. "I will fight for every good job in America. I’m going to fight to make sure trade is fair, and if it’s fair, America will win."

Romney said, on 10/25/2012,......"I saw a story today, that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep, now owned by the Italians, is thinking of moving all production to China,"

Now let me do my imitation of maineman...

So....did Romney lie ?.....Are you saying he DIDN'T see the story or that the story DIDN'T didn't state what he said it stated ?

The TV AD....

"Who will do more for the auto industry? Not Barack Obama," the ad began, adding, "Obama took GM and Chrysler into bankruptcy and sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China. Mitt Romney will fight for every American job."

There are 3 claims...
1..Obama took GM and Chrysler into bankruptcy
2..sold Chrysler to Italians
3..they are going to build Jeeps in China.

Which is a lie ?
