Liberal war on Christians and Christmas

AUGUSTA, Ga. (CBS Atlanta) – An Augusta hospital has adopted a new policy banning Christmas carolers from singing religious songs in public patient areas.

The Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center announced the new policy Monday according to the Athens-Banner Herald.

still going strong...snipping away....its a war of attrition and they never give up.

“Military service veterans, male and female, represent people of all faiths,” hospital spokesman Brian Rothwell said in a statement according to Athens-Banner Herald. “It is out of respect for every faith that The Veterans Administration gives clear guidance on what ‘spiritual care’ is to be given and who is to give it.”

A group of high school students from Augusta’s Alleluia Community School were prevented from singing traditional holiday songs that honor and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ to veterans by the medical center last week.

The school principal, Dan Funsch, told the newspaper that he was disappointed that the Veterans Affairs hospital’s “spiritual care” grants holiday exemption only to secular characters that make up the 12 Days of Christmas.

“This is not a religious proselytizing, evangelistic issue,” Funsch explained, arguing that Christmas songs are broadcast during the holidays on area radio stations and in local retail outlets. “The song Joy to the World is as much a part of the holiday spirit as the Christmas tree.”

Do you, for instance, support the general reading to them of the major thinker of the Nineteenth Century, Karl Marx? Yet all veterans are victims of capitalism, as you know. Stop being hypocritical - you just want to silence dissent, like all right-wingers.

There's no war on Christians or Christmas. That's just pablum for morons who can't think critically and want to feel persecuted.

The real war is the war on rednecks and we have an unstopabble weapon. it's called "EDUCATION!"

this supposed "war on Christmas" is predicated on the false belief that Christianity has some sort of natural, pre-ordained dominance and rightful superiority in American public discourse. At my church, there was never any evidence of any war on Christmas whatsoever. We were free to celebrate the birth of Christ unimpeded by anyone. However, we never felt compelled to go down into the local mosque and sing Christmas carols there. Christmas always has had its rightful place in the hearts of those who believe and that place have never diminished.

I guess this will be the targets in the future....Christmas carols played in shopping malls and public stores and radio stations....

The word "Christmas" itself has been targeted several times on signs before in malls and employees greeting customers with "Merry Christmas" has been discouraged on a routine basis .....

Schools have been their favorite breeding grounds for stomping out the idea of the holiday being a Christian holiday....

Then we have Mr. Strawman....

Is this "the war on Christmas is a myth" theory ?.....Like the "knockout game" myth ?
No one claimed any pre-ordained dominance and rightful superiority
No one claimed any interference with churches....
And no one claimed to be compelling the local mosque to participate in any way.......all strawman bullshit....

If the local mosque invited you to sing, would you go ?....If the local vets hospital requested you to sing would you prevented by the gov. from going ?

You are a despicable pos Nova. You are more concerned with the rights of some Christian trolls than suffering veterans.

Do you, for instance, support the general reading to them of the major thinker of the Nineteenth Century, Karl Marx? Yet all veterans are victims of capitalism, as you know. Stop being hypocritical - you just want to silence dissent, like all right-wingers.

Does it have something to do with the Christmas Holiday season?

a look at past threads on here asserting that America is a "Christian Nation" would tend to disprove your statements.

My son is a choir director AND a school music teacher and his school choir does plenty of sacred music... Christian music, Jewish Music and even some Islamic stuff as well....the small Maine town where he teaches LOVES the diversity of his musical programming.

And I would only go sing where I knew I would be welcomed and doing so would not violate any rules concerning religion in public government places... singing carols is not about pressing boundaries, but spreading joy where joy can be spread.

It's fascinating to watch an ideologue construct utopia on the internet. It must be therapeutic.

Thats exactly what I was getting at...... rules concerning religion in public government places.

keep religion out of taxpayer funded places and keep them IN churches and homes where they belong. I don't need to cram my faith down some poor jewish veteran's throat while he is convalescing in a VA hospital... do YOU?
