The leftists here are for the most part uninformed idealogues. They can't debate a position because they are not informed enough of any topic to honestly compete. All they can do is repeat the propaganda and when you challenge them with information they insult, ridicule, and mock.

But my issue here is the hypocrisy by conservative Christians to chastise the Islamic prophet Muhammad for marrying a young girl which in Arab custom of those times were common for tribes. Teenager or not, the girl is young at least in contemporary times.

It's statutory rape plain and simple here in California. The state defines "adulthood" at 18. Grant it, I may disagree with the idea of adulthood especially since 18 year-old people can't buy alcohol but here the law is the law. This is not the middle ages where people die young. People are living well in their 70's and 80's so marrying young is not necessary.

Are you claiming Mr. Robertson had sex with his future wife before he married her?


Was the marriage legal under Louisiana law, or do you have evidence they married without parental consent?


BTW, you can also marry at 16 in California if you have parental consent...

He married in 8 year old, dude. There is a massive difference. It is still legal in CA to marry a 16 year old if you have parental consent. IMO, that's a travesty, but it is legal.

The idea that we should judge this guy by today's standards is inane. But there was never a time of standards that I know of where an 8 year old was a legitimate sexual object.

Regardless of who had sex prior to the age the fact remains at least socially, it is admonished to marry someone of young age. Again conservative Christian hypocrisy is amazing! Besides you'll be hard pressed to find a 16 year old married to an 18 year old.

In Arab custom many tribes to form alliances with other tribes married off their daughters. It is a custom that many Americans don't understand this is a Semitic tradition that has spanned centuries. The virgin Mary was 14 and Joseph her HUSBAND was in his 90's when he married Mary and was given charge over her when Mary was 12.

8 year old girls were not open for marriage, only girls who had their first period (thus had a bat mitzvah).

As to the 'virgin' Mary, I don't care. You are aiming at the wrong anvil again. The standards, even of that time, did not allow for marriage to 8 year old girls.

Here, read this link, get back to me dude. The reality is, that marriage was not okay according to the custom at the time, nor is there even close to an argument that today it would be okay.

Today, people often get married at 16, that is still a normal, if IMO despicable, custom.

There was never a time that I know of that marrying 6 year old girls was ever okay, especially with silence as "consent".

It is a better source than "No he didn't".

The reality is even the more positive sites say he married her before menses, some of them claim the first sex was at 13 after menses. None of them claim that he didn't ask a six year old to marry him, nor do they say she answered. Her silence was "consent".

Child marriages may have been "common" then (not really, they were pretty rare), but sexual activity before menses was not.
