Of course the CORPORATION responsible for the spill is profusely apologetic.

"We are deeply sorry..." they claim over and over.

Anyone want to bet on whether or not they will feel "sorry" enough to actually PAY for the cleanup.

We need to eighty six the fossil fuel industry as rapidly as possible, IMHO. Were it purely up to me I would rape them financially like the asbestos industry got raped for its products. That ain't gonna happen.

But fossil fuels are expensive in so many ways, spills being just one fo them. Time for clean energy!

Sounds like cruel and unusual to me but its not as if this administration is interested in protecting and defending the constitution.
 
Clearly West Virginia is suffering the case of the "Reds".

Texas has been through this and is getting through this. Profit over humanity is the basic principle of the Right Wing. (with a side of uneducation)

Texas is running out of water due to oil fracking. The people that still have water are getting cancer just like the cancer villages in China.

As a Christian I get so mad seeing Christians pray for a better outcome when god clearly told us that he works through the people. Expecting god to fix your bad decisions is wrong.
 
Note the irony that the corporation that made the spill is "Freedom Industries" Also note that China is now letting school out for smog days (much like our snow days) because of the same style freedom.

I'd go easy on the hyperbole there. This is a serious situation but it's not like they spilled 5000 gallons of benzene. 4-methylcyclohexane methanol is a fairly non-hazardous chemical. It's fairly non-toxic. You'd have to drink a full 8 oz glass of the pure stuff to have a 50% chance of dying. It's not corrosive, it's not ignitable, it readily oxidizes into simple safe compounds in the presence of oxygen and sunlight, it's not chlorinated or fluorinated, It's not bioaccumulative, it's not carcinogenic, It's not regulated under EPA/RCRA as a hazardous waste. It's not regulated under EPA as a CERCLA hazardous substance, it's not Regulated by the Dept. of Transportation as a hazardous material. It's OSHA exposure limit for workers in 200 ppm and considering that it's not volatile it's almost impossible for it to reach that level.

This product is commonly used as a carrier solvent for air freshener products. Mainly the type you use in your car. So it is safe to breath in that application and most of us probably have. To put it into perspective, this stuff is about as hazardous as dishwater detergent.

Now that's not to say that this isn't a serious incident and there has been a clear impact on public health and to the environment and the company responsible should be held to account for all remedial cost and for civil penalties as well (and even criminal if they apply).

But let's not blow this out of perspective. It's not like it was a 5000 gallon spill of benzene or methylenechloride or toluenediisocyanate.

Oh Desh please. That is just so patently untrue. Of course all commerce should be regulated to assure safety, transparency and fairness but I work for a major corporation and we bend over ass backwards to do the right thing. So don't tell me that.

By the way...the cartoon caption is just factually wrong. It won't take long at all till the water is safe to drink again. The proposed response of limiting access to drinking water and flushing the water system till the 4-methylcyclohexane methanol has diluted to one part per million is an adequate solution and should only take a few days. If even that long. Though they can't tell you to the exact minute when that's going to happen.

In addition the alt-net article you linked is factually wrong on a number of points and is irresponsibly alarmist IMHO.
