Why do people like this clown again?

Washington (CNN) Ben Carson on Thursday compared safeguarding Americans from Islamic terrorists who may sneak into the country as refugees to parents protecting their children from rabid dogs.

"If there's a rabid dog running around in your neighborhood, you're probably not going to assume something good about that dog," Carson said during a campaign stop in Alabama. "And you're probably going to put your children out of the way. That doesn't mean that you hate all dogs."

He added, "But you're going to put your intellect into motion and you're thinking, 'How do I protect my children at the same time? ... I'm going to call the humane society and hopefully they can come and take this dog away and create a safe environment once again.'"

The Republican front-runner said it would be "foolish" to welcome Syrian refugees without systems in place to thoroughly vet them.

"We have to have in place screening mechanisms that allow us to determine who the mad dogs are. Quite frankly, who are the people who want to come in and hurt us and destroy us," he said.

Don't you want to safeguard Americans from Islamic terrorists who may sneak into the country as refugees?

I think there can be a lot worst names for terrorists than rabid dogs. He's clearly calling the terrorists rabid dogs, not all Syrian refugees. And I support allowing Syrian refugees into the country but I sure as heck want them to go through the vetting process first (and I understand with so many records in Syria destroyed that can be difficult). This idea that we put them on a boat today and let them out free to go in America tomorrow without a vetting process is waaay out there and just irresponsible.

He said it in the context of Syrian refugees, not individuals sneaking in.

Who has the idea that they can leave Syria today and enter the US tomorrow, other than fear mongers?

He was explaining why we need the vetting process. The only reason I can see a person complaining about a vetting process is the desire to let people in without one.

you objected to this?.......is it because you DO hate all dogs?......

I must be missing something. Who's saying there shouldn't be vetting? My understanding is that people claim it won't be long and thorough enough.

Maybe I'm the one confused here. What I see Carson saying in what you posted is that we need to vet the refugees and he used a rabid dog as an analogy for why we need to vet for terrorists.

Fear-crazed conservatives want big government to add to the current 18-to-24 month by requiring - get this - a "requirement that the secretary of homeland security, the director of the F.B.I. and the director of national intelligence personally certify that every refugee from Syria and Iraq seeking resettlement here is not a threat."

we are open to compromise.....let's settle on keeping Obama from forgetting to spend 18 - 24 months screening the refugees BEFORE they enter the country.......because quite frankly, there isn't a Democrat or a Republican anywhere around here who actually thinks he intends to do it...............

I don't think it's helpful to make an analogy like that. It demonizes the entire group and throws fuel on the fire.

Look at how people on this forum get so incensed when Iranis shout "death to America." Yet fearful people here are doing the equivalent.

Straight-up pandering to fear mongers. Guess we have to keep in mind there's an election year coming up.

ben carson has a pretty good sense of humor. he will be good as the director of health and human services in president trump's cabinet.

Have you got any evidence that any Syrian refugee has entered the US without being screened?

I'll understand if you don't.

We have to vet refugees for possible terrorist. It would be completely irresponsible not to. If you find comparing terrorists to rabid dogs offensive then fair enough. But I don't see that as equivalent to saying death to America. Carson specifically said he (we) doesn't hate all dogs but you have to still vet the good ones to weed out the bad ones.

And it also wasn't going to happen, either, so why are people claiming it will?

I don't know if they are. He was simply explaining why we need to vet refugees. Nothing very controversial or noteworthy about what he said. Christi just didn't like the analogy.

why no.....because I know Obama would never ever contemplate bringing refugees into the country until the full 18-24 month screening process was complete......that's why we won't have to worry until 2017 that it might happen.......unless of course you suspect he might not keep his promise.........
