What trump said illustrates a basic and fatal lack of understanding of America's history, founding principals, and values.

We are brave people who do not discriminate based on religion out of fear.

Give me liberty or give me death was Patrick Henry's call at the time of the founding of our nation, Trump has suggested a major policy that illustrates that his philosophy is opposite of that idea. Trump belongs on a reality television show with Sarah Palin, not leading this great nation.

Republicans, real Republicans, those who are based in the reality of what America is, should be shouting from the rooftops about how afoul Trump is to America and the Republican party. Like the Speaker of the House did!

I'll give you a couple of reasons.

It's against the principles America was founded on and is most likely unconstitutional.

At the end of the day it's likely to make us more unsafe than it is to help. We rely on Muslim countries to help us fight ISIS. Most of our intelligence in the area comes from Muslims. You can't say we want/need your help while at the same time saying fvck you. Listen to what our counter intelligence agents are saying the negative effects his comments have already had.

The topper is when Trump says it would be enforced by immigration agents asking if people are Muslim.

What's unfortunate is we all lose here. Obama is too soft and uses this weak rhetoric which allows for someone like to Trump to demagogue all around. Not good for the country.

I'm not sure how you can call it a religion of peace, when one of their main tenets from the Quran is to "kill all non-believers." Just because some Muslims don't follow that portion, doesn't make the religion peaceful. IT's a murderous death cult.

Banning people based citizenship of a foreign nation has precedent and is not outrageous under some circumstances.

Banning people based on their religion is a very different thing that is counter to our identity as Americans.

Our Nation was founded by people running from such a government.

That was against a particular country and even then he still allowed for humanitarian outs. We aren't going to let some rich Muslim dude from Britain here to do business because of ISIS? It's not the same argument.

You also made an unwarranted criticism on Obama's handling of the situation as being "weak" when he has accomplished far more then his predecessor did and his predecessor, along with the GOP who walked in lock step with him are largely if not entirely responsible for the power vacuum that created this mess. There are limits to US power. The US cannot win against ISIL based on the GOP's unilateral military policies. It's a recipe for another Iraq.

I would start with a real air campaign first.

Obama is doing the bare minimum. Trying to do as little as possible, limiting the number of sorties, etc.

Heck there were training camps and other targets left untouched in Syria, until French and Russian fighters hit them.

Then their is the oil trucks, oil rigs, that Obama has, unitil Paris attacks, refused to hit.
