Now deciding what is middle is the hard part.
Of the three, which are what you are calling Conservatives? Which group are supporting Trump? Are you considering Trump a Conservative?
In your opinion, other than the Gang of 8, what is moderate about Rubio? Now this is taken with a grain of salt based on where I live but I've heard a couple of 'independent' voters call Rubio too conservative. Of course how conservative or liberal one is is all in the eye of the beholder but what makes Rubio moderate to you?
Understand by moderate, I don't mean liberal. But he has a history being more bi partisan. Most recently on his stance with an amnesty bill. I like Rubio- I like Cruz.
I'm no Trump fan, but I will vote for him over Hillary or Bernie.
Does being conservative mean one never works with anyone else? Reagan was about as conservative a President we had but he made bi-partisan deals all the time as President.

I don't think I said being a moderate was bad? I also said I wasn't calling Rubio a non conservative. Moderate conservatives however have not won a presidential election since Bush II. I like Rubio.

He was going to Iraq, 9/11 or not, it was always the goal of his administration. It would not have been much different except the people killed would still be alive and we would not have invaded Afghanistan. You see, I also saw GWB as more of a moderate conservative. His compassionate conservativism resonated with me. It could be seen in his No Child Left Behind which was a decently motivated if not misguided effort to do something positive in education which hardly any republican ever does. It would have been interesting to see how he would have governed if it weren't for 9/11.

I just can't believe that. I have heard so many say that but he could have never pulled it off without some sort of reason like 9/11 ...

Rubio aside, I guess I don't understand what qualifies someone as a conservative these days. It seems the definition has switched to basically one's position on immigration and then how few legislative bills they've voted for.
Cruz likes to use the line that moderate Republicans lose but Bush won twice and he was a moderate. No Republican was winning in 2008 and the field sucked in '12.
Moderates that have lost.
Dole, McCain, Romney.
Dole had the misfortune of running against a political superman. McCain and Romney were weak candidates at the time they ran.
No disagreement, but it's also true that moderates don't get the support neccesary to win the General election.
