Update:

A Virginia state trooper is clinging to life and the the man who shot him is dead after a gunfight inside a Richmond Greyhound bus station, according to police.

A group of troopers was inside the depot around 2:45 p.m. when a man walked up and shot one of the troopers, state police spokeswoman Corrinne Geller said. The other two troopers returned fire, killing the suspect.

Two other bystanders were shot but are expected to survive, Geller said.

The wounded trooper was taken to the hospital, where family is expected to join him.

WWBT-TV reported that state police were conducting a drug training exercise at the station Thursday when the suspect walked up to a trooper and shot him in the chest. Other troopers were able to return fire, killing the gunman.

The area on North Boulevard has been roped off as police investigate. The FBI, ATF and officials from Homeland Security are on scene as well.
