My only question on all of these tax questions is, are they legal? If Trump did not pay income tax for many years, then good for him. If obama's only paid 20% on almost $800k, good for them. Just so long as it was legal. I doubt that that are very many among us that goes out of our way to pay more in federal taxes than we legally owe.

Hillary gave just a bit over one million to charities last year. It was all legal, but it was to me a bit strange when I found out that one million of that was donated to the Clinton Foundation, i.e., she gave it to herself for a tax deduction. I guess that says a lot about her.

who had 30 years to fix a tax system that had loopholes like this? GE paid 0 just last year right? :)

Philosophically, in a free market, capitalistic economic system that we are suppose to have here in the USA, there ought not be taxes on income/profits nor on privately owned real property. I would opine that a tax on spending would be appropriate. I am not advocating a sales tax, nor a consumption tax, nor a value added tax.

She/Bill paid $21 million in taxes that year.

The issue isn't the tax rate that billionaires pay. We need to see Trump's returns (actually, we don't) in order to verify his claims re. being a 'hugely successful' businessman.

This only works if you can get the private sector to willingly fund all of those things that keep a society afloat....the military being the biggest expense, but not the most important

Soak the rich - they do bugger all and steal everything they can get their hands on. Tax 'em 100% and shoot them if they fail to pay! :)

That's a fairly common method for the wealthy to lower their tax burden while financing a charitable organization they created and control. I have no problem with that as long as the money is used for its intended charitable purpose and not as a slush fund created to avoid taxes and used for other purposes.

For example Lance Armstrong gave large amounts of his own personal wealth to create his Livestrong foundation. He received a large tax write off too. You don't hear a peep about that but the Livestrong foundation has used contributions as intended.

I have heard lots of accusations of the Clinton foundation being used as a slush fund, not surprising during a campaign, I have seen no proof. If elected the Clintons have stated that their foundation will be managed by a blind trust as long as she is in office.

As long as that's the case I see attacks on the Clinton foundation as just another partisan ad hom attack.

Not Hillary, she and her party have tried, only to be thwarted over and over again by Republicans, and Trump is not even saying he would try to fix it.

Republicans complain about HRC taking money from Wall Street, but it's legal!

Whats your point? Such a tax is still regressive and shifts the burden of taxation from the wealthy to the middle and working classes and is fundamentally unfair.

Fortunatately, though a capitalist, I'm not a free market fundamentalist. Until I see the free market build bridges and roads, schools, public utilities, provide for our national defense and public health in a cost affective and competent fashion, I will never be a free market fundamentalist. Also whenever I hear a self serving businessman call for deregulation I'm going to be cynical as hell until they demonstrate that they are trustworthy. Mostly they haven't.

Hey, if everything Trump has done is just Honkey Dorey if he had nothing to be ashamed of... why was he refusing to release this return?

In 1995 the Clintons paid $21 million in taxes? Seriously?

The usual Trump megalomania on display:

"I know our complex tax laws better than anyone who has ever run for president and am the only one who can fix them."

Just like he knows more about ISIS than the generals. :D

We should apply the standard you apply to the Clintons. Did Trump break any laws? And no you don't need to see his returns in order to tell that. The IRS sees his returns. Don't you think that if there were anything fishy they would have gotten him by now?

I know you think this is a big deal. But it isn't. It is to you because you are desperate to get the cunt Crooked ILLary in office and you will do and say anything to do it. But, this type of deduction is available to EVERY taxpayer. You take a loss, you carry it forward. I have done it many, many, many times.
