Being poor

Who cares Dano? You want a medal?
No I don't want a damn thing given to me for nothing.

Maybe you were too stupid to steal the food and not get caught, but just smart enough to know it. Whatever.
Bullshit, theft is not a matter of intelligence, it's morals period, we ALL know it's wrong. And the few poor people I know who did steal, it was ALWAYS candy or chips or music, not fucking meat.
It's that kind of talk that reinforces my view that Liberals know fuck-all about real poverty.

You always have to hit people in their lowest part. Totally straight up, I’m not the slightest bit impressed. I am impressed by a survivor. If you have to steal to survive and you can do it? Whatever it takes.
Would it impress you more if people started killing each other for goods? I mean whatever it takes right?
Geezus and we wonder why Liberal Democrat run inner cities are hell-holes...

We live in a society that places moral judgements against poor people for stealing a freaking piece of meat, and tells them, go hungry today as long as you are “moral” you will be rewarded in the afterlife, while rewarding lying, cheating, stealing, and completely amoral corporations and ceos of those corporations, and they get rewarded in this life, not some nebulous next one.
Nothing pisses me off more than that faux moral outrage.
It's not false, you are romanticizing the poor life with your Hugoesque view of stealing bread to live. Poor people are more fat than most, they don't need to steal food to live.
It's total bullshit and nothing more.

My father father was an abusive alcoholic unemployed ww2 vet. My father He decided to work hard to get out of that lifestyle... going to military.. going thru school. When I was born we lived on campus housing at college and with 2 kids pilled into a vw rabbit. He built up himself to middle class over the years and told me now its your turn to move us to the next level.

Why cant poor people stop being poor?
1) A percent of them are not intelligent enough to
2) Perhaps a medical condition?
3) And by far the biggest… laziness

I feel bad for #1 and #2 and want to help them.

I loath #3

"Laziness" in the modern world means nothing. You try working at the plywood plant 13 hours a day and barely having enough to feed your kids, you twerp. Go take your Aruba vacations and complain about your income over 200,000 a year being taxed at an extra 4%.

I disagree with your assessment of #3. I think that is a commonly propogandized perception, but there are working poor who work 7 days a week, at 2-3 different jobs, and still cannot make ends meet.

I just don't buy the perception that the majority of poor are lazy & sitting around collecting welfare. I don't have facts or stats on that, but I until I see 'em, I do not buy it. I've encountered too many poor people who work their arses off...

Not so much laziness as comfort in being poor and no desire to try out for even APPLYING for a better job or doing anything to do better.

You're an asshole Dano.

And I still don't give a crap about a poor person stealing food. To think of all of the outrages in this world, and to get upset about that really shows how f'd a person is.

i have worked hard jobs. farms, tobacco picking, roofing, you name it.

Why cant these people work towards a degree that pays them a bigger salary? If its cause they aren't smart enough they belong in #1.

Tough shit, it's still wrong and people still do get upset at it. If you don't care about stealing then don't expect to get sympathy when someone steals something from you.

As if we needed more proof on the 1st part of your response.

I can only think "if you haven't been poor enough to steal food, you haven't really been poor." Dano doesn't understand poverty, by any stretch. He has a million judgments & flawed conclusions about it, but he doesn't get it.

That is so true Water. It drives me crazy. Here we all sit posting on JPP all day, from our obviously cushy office jobs, talking about "lazy" poor people, many of whom are working two and three jobs. I mean if I can't take lunch because of a meeting or something, I am all pissed off. I'm spoiled. I know it.

Too bad some others can't see themselves.

They're all slaving away alright!

Oh yeah, because being poor is very comfortable.

It's comfortable enough that they don't need to bother doing much more.
When I left McDonalds, there were people there that I saw being there for life and some of them still are. Just about all could do better at say a restaurant with tips and more upscale customers but they are comfortable where they are and don't move.

You don't really understand until you work with people like that.

And of course all of the poor people he knows stole candy and video games, not real food! He is such a freaking liar.

yah but im sure it wasnt always that way for you.. my first office jobs i was taking phone calls from 8am to 8pm and trading shit. 2 15min breaks and a45min lunch.

Desh, guys call it razzing.
I have zero anger really.
I have a spouse that I adore like you do yours.
I way too lucky to be angry about anything even traffic.

I’ve had shit stolen from me Dano, and the only time I got mad was when it was my cell phone because I saw who took it, and he wasn’t no poor guy. He was just an opportunist. I had an expensive leather coat stolen from my car, and the window was broken, and I got mad for about 30 seconds literally, and then thought, maybe they were cold and needed it more than I do.

You know why? Because I have insurance to pay for my window, and I could afford another leather coat. Life is too short for me to turn purple and start railing against a person who didn’t have what I was BORN having, because if they did, they wouldn’t be doing what they did. I didn’t.

So get off your high horse, and learn one thing: NOT EVERYBODY IS LIKE YOU.

Absolutely. I have it made, but it does not mean I do not work hard when they do need me.
But yes overall it is the easiest and best paying job I have ever had.
I have found it to be the case that the more you make the less work you do.

A question do you actually work harder than the crew that comes in and strips and waxes the floors do ?

Yeah but Chap, even still, I've never had to wait tables. I've never really had to work my ass off. Imagine being a waitress in a crappy diner.
